Cowboy sold a few cows to the Durango-Silverton Railroad crew over in Durango. He was paid in cash and now he was packing over $500 in gold coins in his saddlebags. Cowboy was worried that some of the misfits hanging out at the bar in the Strater Hotel had caught wind of his sale. Sure enough, Cowboy saw one owlhoot whispering to his sidekicks as they threw Cowboy a hard stare and scooted out the back door.

Cowboy quickly saddled up and headed west. Cowboy had not seen anyone on his back trail until he hit the rolling hills of cedars and sagebrush west of Mancos. He saw dust in the distance behind him as he rode west to Cortez. He needed somewhere to hold up before gang of would-be robbers caught him. Cowboys mind raced as he tried to develop a plan to ditch his pursuers. Cortez would not offer any refuge as Cowboy would have no cause to tell the law. The persuers had done nothing yet. Then Cowboy got an idea, he would bypass Cortez and ride north instead. Cowboy hoped his hoof prints would become lost among those who rode in-and-out of town. Cowboy raced toward the Arriola Ranch owned by his good friend Shane. Arriola Ranch was a good outfit with several top notch wranglers. Cowboy rode up to Shane and asked if he could lay up for a few days. Shane was excited to have Cowboy stay as long as he wanted.. Cowboy wanted to keep the gold secret. When the wranglers asked where he had been and where he was headed, Cowboy told them he was just passin' through.

The container is flat black with a bit of SWAG. Please hide as found.

We’re headed home from OR to southern NM and stopping for caches along the way. This is the first visit of the New Brunswick Winter Challenge Geocoin (TB4AQMQ) to Colorado so we checked Colorado off the list of states visited by this TB. TNLNSL. TFTC.
