Off the Beaten' Path is a growing series of caches hidden around La Plata County.

When my dad was a boy there weren't very many houses or businesses around the Bayfield area. Bayfield was a giant playground of pastures and wilderness. Grandpa would wake dad up at 5:30 every morning so he could feed and water the animals. They had cattle, horses, pigs and chickens. Dad would ditch school any chance he could to go hunting. On his way home from school, dad would take his .22 and check his trap lines along the Pine River and irrigation ditches for beaver, muskrat, and racoon.

This is one of many areas of dad's fond memories where he used to play. Further down the path you will find a small swimming hole. Watch for muggles along the path as you search for the cache. There's room for travel bugs to visit. Please don't take one unless you leave one. Be sure to secure the cache the same way you found it.

Finding was easy, writing in the log less so due to technical difficulties (container got stuck out of reach) but managed in the end to get it all worked out using materials in the area (a long stick). TFTC!

Clever hide. We really enjoyed finding this one. Just making a brief stop while driving between CO and AZ. Perfect coordinates. Someone hadn't put the lid back on, but had left it in the container. We .put the lid on. Just a little bit of dampness in container, but log is dry. SL T4TSmile Awarding a favorite point.
