RM Off Road Series (ORS) #1: Daken Road/Long Hollow Road

This cache is the fifth of six in my #1 series of off-road caches located along the Daken Road/Long Hollow Road route.  This route runs for about 23 miles starting from Perry Park road, about 10 miles south of Sedalia and ends at Highway 67 near Rainbow Falls Park.

Cache Information
This cache is located up at the top of a little side trail.  It's a steep little trail that you can hike up or drive up depending on how adventurous you are.  There are awesome views of the valley below from this location.  The cache container is a 50 caliber ammo can that started out with the usual premium RocketMan geoswag.

2. Granite Overlook

4. Fallen Aspen
5. Valley View
6. Pikes Grand View

Trail Information

Rating/Description
This trail is rated easy but it is not your standard flat dirt road like Rampart Range Road.  It has lots of undulations, divots and off camber areas which makes it a fun route to drive.  Most stock SUV type vehicles should have no trouble on this trail.  Disclaimer: You need to decide for yourself if it is safe to make the trip in your vehicle.

Winter Months
The trail is closed to full sized vehicles from December 1st to April 1st.  During this time, it is open to small unlicensed vehicles.

Time/Distance
The entire trail is approximately 23 miles and should take about 3 to 4 hours driving time.  You will also need to include time for finding the caches, exploring, sight seeing, lunch, etc.

Trail Waypoints
See waypoint listing on RM Off Road #1 - Balanced Boulder (GCWEMH).

Left a few pathtags and picked up $10,000. Maybe it was a fake $10,000 scratch ticket, but it made me laugh.

11:57 AM Having completed our 64th Colorado county on 8/5, my wife and I are enjoying our customary 2 week stay in Divide. (I never get tired of mentioning the Colorado 64 challenge, since it it was 10 years in the making.)

Today we are hiking and caching near Rainbow Falls. Nice to find one that was placed before I started geocaching. All is in good shape.

We signed the log. Thanks, RocketMan and Kaching Kristin, for the cache.

Jill parked at the bottom and we walked up. Someone was camping up top so we tried to quietly slip by. Dropped off a VW bug that is a trackable. Sl, thanks!

Opened up the 4-Wheel-Drive Trails book and selected the Rainbow Falls 8-mile trail to get my Jeep out on. Might as well bring some company and do some geocaching, too! Could not have asked for a better day to enjoy what I love about Colorado. TFTC! --Deadmoney
