RM Off Road Series (ORS) #1: Daken Road/Long Hollow Road

This cache is the third of six in my #1 series of off-road caches located along the Daken Road/Long Hollow Road route.  This route runs for about 23 miles starting from Perry Park road, about 10 miles south of Sedalia and ends at Highway 67 near Rainbow Falls Park.

Cache Information
This cache is located on a large granite boulder with a surprise view of Pikes Peak to the South and the valley to the West.  The cache container is a 50 caliber ammo can that started out with the usual premium RocketMan geoswag.

2. Granite Overlook
3. Pikes View
4. Fallen Aspen
5. Valley View
6. Pikes Grand View

Trail Information

Rating/Description
This trail is rated easy but it is not your standard flat dirt road like Rampart Range Road.  It has lots of undulations, divots and off camber areas which makes it a fun route to drive.  Most stock SUV type vehicles should have no trouble on this trail.  Disclaimer: You need to decide for yourself if it is safe to make the trip in your vehicle.

Winter Months
The trail is closed to full sized vehicles from December 1st to April 1st.  During this time, it is open to small unlicensed vehicles.

Time/Distance
The entire trail is approximately 23 miles and should take about 3 to 4 hours driving time.  You will also need to include time for finding the caches, exploring, sight seeing, lunch, etc.

Trail Waypoints
See waypoint listing on RM Off Road #1 - Balanced Boulder (GCWEMH).

 Hints

Climb up along the east slope of the rocks and swing around towards the west side using the aspen tree as a hold. The cache is under the east edge of the farthest west rock.

Nope. I tried to use the hint to focus my search, but still came up empty.

Looked pretty hard but could not find it. Geodog Baloo got restless after awhile so we decided to move on.

Finally grabbed this one today. Have driven by it twice, either bad reception or planning never got it. I was in the area taking my scouts camping. Came ahead of the group to secure a campsite and then did a few caches and hikes. Cache in good shape.
Thanks RocketMan and Kaching Kristin! Logged RM ORS #01-03: Pikes View using a seventh galaxy!

Out for a little jeeping, hiking, and geocaching with the girlfriend on a 23-mile drive through Pike National Forest. A little rain in the forecast, but who lets a little water ruin their day?? TFTC!! --Deadmoney

For a Halloween treat we took the ATV back up to this area for a ride. Because we were 2 up on a ranch style machine we decided to stay off the narrow, steep trails and take this FS road instead. Thanks for adding to the trip with this cache series. We started with this cache location. For some reason there is a lot of signal bounce in this whole region so the hints really help if you happen to get on the same page as the CO. We did wander in several places on this rock formation (and looked up even higher too, but decided not to try it) but my husband started searching in a slightly different area than the GPS was pointing me to and found it right away. The GPS had a good reading in that area also so it added to the difficulty.
