The cabin cache.
A beautiful area for a hike and a cache. Take USFS 311 north from the top of Trout Creek Pass on U.S. Hwy 24/285 (see reference point). Go past the USFS 309 junction and continue to USFS 311D (see other reference point). At the end of USFS 311D is the Davis Meadow Trailhead. Hike a little over 1.5 miles to the old cabins to find the cache. Stay on the trail past the cabins for more adventure.
The family and I hiked this trail today (Memorial Day 2014). My 7-year-old boy and 5-year-old girl had no problems. My 2-year-old I hauled in a kids pack on my back. The is a great family hike. The trail has an altitude gain of around 700 feet and tops out at 10,000 feet. It goes through aspen groves, meanders along creeks, passes a pond, and has a rock or two to climb. Half way along is a stand of old cabins from the turn of the century. A perfect spot for a cache!
Original cache contents: log (in plastic bag) and pencil
