This is a great overlook of the Dolores River near Gateway. Do not take this one lightly. It's very much a 4.5 terrain rating. The ride up John Brown Canyon is easy and pleasant, the turn on to BLM road 819 becomes more difficult, but is easily ridden on an ATV or a good Jeep all the way out to the end, which stops a little over 1/2 mile from the cache. The hike out to the point is the difficult part and involves dropping down onto a saddle (not too hard), but then scrambling up a lot of rocks to the top of the point. We had to engage in a lot of route finding and teamwork to get up on top. But the effort is very much worth it. Teamwork is recommended, and I even found myself wishing I had a short length of rope at times. Not much, just 10 or 15 feet or so. The cache is a small plastic tube hidden at the base of a pinyon tree under some rocks. I figured this would be a very sparsely visited location, but apparently enough people go out there that there is a small foot trail across the saddle, and there's even quite a bit of cow sign. It's a very cool area, hard to reach, but very much worth the effort.
