Pleasant View !930's-1950's This was a small community of hardy pioneers. Emil and Jewel Zabel lived here with their family of four children. The kids went to the Pleasant View school (grades 1-8). The second of these four children is the well-known Steamboat Springs artist and sculptor Curtis Zabel. The Zabel family sold milk, eggs, butter, cream, chickens and ducks to the housewives of Mt. Harris, a thriving coal town just a few miles to the east. Emil Zabel worked at Mt. Harris and for the Carpenter Ranch. Jewel was the cook (dare we say "chef") for Mr. Farrington Carpenter for many years. Poached pears with Port wine! Yummm,Yummm Good!
