This is probably my last hurrah before they close the canyon down next week. Pretty great geocache to go out on! I had a great time figuring this one out and then hunting for it. I figured out the locations of all the checkpoints using the map provided and a ruler with a centimeter scale on it. I plotted those points on my phone using my favorite app and set off for the hills. The waypoints on my phone were spot on! I had no trouble finding any of the five checkpoints. I even did them in the intended order. Just for fun I also did the bearings and distances but found that they were off by a little bit, enough that it would have been pretty hard to find the checkpoints if not for my plotted points on my phone. All checkpoints were in great condition as is the final cache. I sure enjoy Crosier mountain, and appreciate how this and a couple other of your geocaches have introduced me to the Sullivan Gulch trail.

Only 1 map remains...

This cache sequence all started about 2 weeks ago when the family and I headed up to Estes Park for a well needed vacation! We couldn't check into our hotel till about 3pm. so what better way to burn up some time than to go after initial stage of "Danny Boy", getting to the false coords, was a bit of a work out, but had no problem zeroing in on the initial stage. Fast Forward today, was the day I would work through the stages in an area I had never been before, the trailhead isn't marked very well but finally started out shortly after 7:30am after 25 minutes or so cp1 was in my sights it took me a bit to spy, recorded the cookie tin's info and hiked to the end of the trail where I started doing my map work, I had done some preliminary work at home with the utm's and later realized I had issues with the scaling with one check point, with the bearing's involved I determined what was the correct way to go. The entire cache sequence was done with plotting, I initially tried wp projection between cp3 to cp4 but realized I didn't guess the right distance so out came the roamer again. Most points were within 2-3 meters of both Easting and Northing. Cp #3 I was off by about 10m but given the nature of the area I had it my hand within 5 minutes. While at Cp5 I was unsure which way to go so up and around I went, from where I came, marching through the downed tree area in my opinion made this a T5 rating, as I neared the meadows area again I really didn't even need the garmin to tell me to go ! A Tahosa cache? Ya its' clear up there, was what my mind was telling me. After making the find I came down and rested awhile on a soft rock, as Denali41 would say, and took in the beautiful scenery that was before me to the East. Thanks Tahosa, for the top notch cache you placed up here, and thank you Denali41 for maintaining it for so long, definitely one of my favorites to date!

FYI : Two maps remain in the intial cache start, which I would guess it might be good for another two years( haha) look forward to bagging this one need to get the roamer out and figure 500 meter blocks now
I've only used the 1000m utm's up until now I imagine accuracy is greatly improved with the different scale!

Whew, I am wiped out! And that's after having done Stage 1 on a different day. Marbles may have been my most difficult one on Crosier so far (and I've done almost all of them now), but this one is definitely the hardest terrain. I'm surprised I didn't tumble back down Sullivan Gulch to the car. Even my dog is achy. Naturally, the last flag I found was the farthest from the cache. :)
I mostly used coords I eyeballed from the map, but I also figured out backup coords from a roamer scale (that was a learning curve!). I used them a couple of times, but mostly my gps took me right there, although I had a tough time finding some of them. I think I spent almost an hour looking for Flag 4; my coords weren't so great for that one. I just walked right up to Flag 3. I never figured out what I was supposed to do with the bearings from Flag 1.
So now I have all the pieces of the Cross. As soon as I can snag a hiking partner, it's mine!
