Wow, that was fun! I made it a little more scary than it needed to be by trying to go too far north on the west side of the summit block before climbing up, and the wind didn’t make me feel any safer. But once I found the right way up, I was happy to be there. My dog made it safely too, though I had to give him a boost in one spot. Once at the top, I saw a golden eagle soaring and swooping in the high winds at or below my altitude, and the vista was spectacular. The cache container is in no danger of accidental discovery and the log papers are dry with plenty of space to handle a lot more discoveries. I wish I could say the same for the summit log, which is wet and moldy.
This cache was placed 3 years before I started caching and I’m pretty pleased to be one of the very few to have found it (after a couple failed tries). Thanks, Steve, for placing this and so many other back country caches that keep me going out there!

The dry climbing season is finally here but wow, I'm definitely out of shape. I've been wanting to go for this cache for quite some time and decided today was the day. This climb is not for the feint of heart. The first part of the hike is downhill for nearly 800 feet of elevation drop. Then you have to make that up, and then some, to get to the peak. The Dry St. Vrain Creek wasn't so dry today either but I was able to find a safe spot to cross without getting wet. After crossing the creek, it's all uphill to the cache, all 1500+ feet of uphill, and it's pretty steep too. And to top it off, you have to drop back down and then reascend that nearly 800 feet to get back to the trailhead! It took me about 3 1/2 hours, including time spent looking unsuccessfully for Barngineer's Plan B cache, to get to the summit of South Sheep Mountain and about 2 hours to get back to the trailhead.
I also mistakenly added some unnecessary spice to my scramble as I didn't climb as high as I should have on the south side before moving around to look for the SW approach as described on the cache page. I still kept it at Class 3 but added some more difficult moves and exposure. But I made it safely up and down. At GZ the cache container was a quick find. The container and log are in fine condition. I added my moniker to the very short list of finders and then went a little further and signed the summit register. That log was soaked! Then it was photo time. I've attached a couple but they definitely don't do the actual views justice.
Thanks Denali41 for placing another of your awesome backcountry caches to lure us adventure-seeking cachers!!!

On May 13, 2016 while hiking in the area we found our way to the summit of South Sheep mountain. Well, it wasn't until days later that we discovered we had unknowingly walked right by a Denali41 backcountry geocache!
OK, today it was time to head up there again, this time with another fun hike in mind with more new exploring of the area, but also with this cache on the radar. We had another really good hike/climb up and down some fun and challenging obstacles on different routes than we had taken last spring.
After reaching the summit and signing the summit log, CNC and I quickly located the cache not far away. It is in perfect condition and the coords are right on. We TNLN and signed the log. Thanks for this cache in such great location!

After attempting this one from the North via Coulson Gulch, I would like to offer the following advice: Don't attempt this one from the North via Coulson Gulch. The river between N Sheep and S Sheep has washed out the bridge and there's no safe way to cross that I could find. Even if I had crossed the river, I'm not convinced that I could have climbed up that steep face or found a way around it. It was a nice day for a bike ride and a hike, though. Thanks for luring me as far as I went. The canyon is spectacular.

Well this was another great adventure by my inspiration Danali 41, yes he is a great man. We decided to approach this one from the hill top near Enfoque Amigo where we spent the night. Navigating around the private property was challenging as was the vertical gain over 2000 round trip. We did however find a cool abandoned mine at N 40 11.646 W 105 25.670, two deer antlers and an old car. Oh yeah and the cache which was in a great place and I am so glad that caching brought me there.

OK- if you happen to punch in a wrong number on your GPS (don't do it!) and head towards a spot 2 miles too far east, then you may be in for a 7 mile hike, like I was. Beautiful afternoon in the Dry Saint Vrain area. The "Dry" Saint Vrain wasn't at all dry today though- it was roaring- but crossing it was not too bad, what with all of the fallen trees. The hike was nice and peaceful- just me and the birds, and lots of animal tracks. Signed the log FTF at 6pm. TFTC!
