Dogs  Recommended for kids  Scenic view  Available at all times  Ticks  Parking available  Public restrooms nearby  Picnic tables nearby  No Motorcycles  No Quads  No Off-road vehicles  Medium hike (1km-10km)

Take a mile hike up a trail and then off the beaten path to a great view!

?Park at the Beaver Creek Recreation Area, and take the trail that starts behind the picnic area.  The hike to the cache will take about 30 - 40 minutes.  Wear hiking shoes, and be aware of cactus.

Once you leave the trail, you'll be hiking up through red granite overlain by what once was sandstone.  However, the sandstone has been baked into quartzite by ancient volcanic ash flows.  Elevation at the cache is 7940'.

There is a great view from the knob.  To your left (southeast) is W Mountain, Tomichi Dome, Chipeta and Ouray Peaks, and the Collegiate peaks of the Saguache Range.  To your right (southwest) is Uncompahgre Peak (one of Colorado's 14-ers). In the foreground below and past the hiking trail is a remnant of the Old Spanish Trail of the late 1700's.

?The cache is in a clear plastic box with a blue lid.

Nice hike but I made the terrain much more difficult by following the trail past the knob & then up. Nope, not a good plan. I worked my way around the knob then on up closer to the way I should have come. Spotted the cache from a vantage point.

Well, not one for FTF, but guess this is one. Have walked this trail innumerable times, so familiar. Once near GC, found the CO's track and followed up the ridge to the cache location. Nice spot and wonderful hike. Thanks.
Oh, one downside, puppy learned what a cactus is. Easily resolved so all is well.
