My golf game is.. well… inconsistent to say the least. Once in a great while, I’ll have a nice shot that makes me want to come back but most of the time, I just get frustrated. I often top the ball and watch it skim the grass and go just a few yards or sometimes, I will slice it into the trees.
I always dreamed of being good enough to play in the Masters tournament. The golf course at Augusta is so beautiful with the green grass, trees and blooming flowers.

So, I took a couple days off from work and drove to Georgia. I went to the golf course the next morning, right at dawn. The security fence had an opening, so I squeezed through, golf clubs in hand, and made my way to the first tee box.
Seeing no one around, I placed my tee and pulled out my driver. I wound up and smacked the ball as hard as I could. A couple shots later, I was in the hole for a birdie!
I was so stoked, I went to the long 2nd, "Pink Dogwood" thinking, this course isn’t so hard! Not so fast, I got a triple bogey.
I got a bogey on the next hole after avoiding those 4 fairway bunkers and was happy with that. Maybe I could conquer this course after all.
Sure enough, I got a par and then a birdie on the next two!
On the short "Juniper" hole, I couldn’t get out of the sand trap and wound up with a triple bogey.
On to hole 7, I was able to get a nice birdie.
Now, for the highlight of my day. The long 570-yard "Yellow Jasmine". I grabbed my driver and with nothing to lose, I did my best Happy Gilmore shot. That ball just sailed and sailed. The wind must have been just right as I lost sight of the ball. I spent the next 20 minutes looking for it and as a last resort, I looked in the cup. There it was! My ball had somehow made it in the hole for a rare condor! I think the commotion from my screaming must have alarmed security because I soon heard a golf cart close by. I grabbed my clubs and ran into the trees for cover.
I skipped the next hole, fearful that I would be seen. I waited patiently under a tree until the coast was clear. I started again with hole 10 and was able to get a par on this and the next one.
On to hole 12, I drove the ball just over Rae’s Creek where it stayed on the green and I scored a satisfying birdie.
I got a double bogey on the famous "Azalea" hole.
On to hole 14 where I sliced my ball in the right side trees. I just decided to skip this one and come back to it later.
I moved on to 15 where I was able to score an eagle!
With just a few holes to go, I set up on 16 and was getting ready to drive when I felt a nudge on my shoulder. It was my wife telling me, “Wake up, you’ll be late to work!”
What a dream!
