A cache and dash located along Hwy 6. The cache is a 3” section of PVC with a screw in plug.
On June 7, 1904, an outlaw named Harvey Logan attempted one of the West’s last train robberies near Parachute. Harvey Logan was also known as Kid Curry and was a member of Butch Cassidy’s notorious “Hole in the Wall” gang.
When the west bound Denver & Rio Grande train made its scheduled 1:15 AM stop in Parachute that morning, a man scrambled on board. He ordered the engineer, at gun point to proceed to Strait Flats, roughly 3 miles west of town. There he was joined by two accomplices. The three outlaws forced the Baggage Master to open the doors of the baggage care and blew open the safe with a charge of dynamite. They expected to find a shipment of gold.

Historians have never established that they actually did find gold. It is believed by many that the gold had been sent through on an earlier train. After blowing the safe, the gang headed directly for the Colorado River. They crossed the river and mounted horsed that they had hidden on the south side. They headed for Battlement Mesa, stealing fresh horses along the way. Lawmen from Grand Junction and Parachute, along with several ranchers pursued them. Two days after the chase started, Kid Curry shot himself rather than be taken alive. He was later buried in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.

Stopped by on a rainy day. Cache in good shape thanks to the last cachers. Thanks for a bit of history! I always drive through this area without stopping to look around. Thought I would change that a bit today. Thanks!

Found on our way home from Potters Pond. Great story - we have also seen the information at the park in Parachute. Signed the log and went we went to return the container the plastic broke completely in half. All we had that would fit all the swag was a large pretzel container so we placed everything in that.
