*** PLEASE READ NOTE POSTED BELOW FOR UPDATE ON FIRST STAGE*** There are few people who have heard of the adventurer and explorer from Colorado, known as Dr. Aston Buckhorn. A fearless but private rogue, Dr. Buckhorn kept much of his research and treasure hunting to himself. Very few people even knew his whereabouts during most of his adult life.

Hiker

After he went missing in 2013, his personal journal from his adventures was discovered after a heavy rain storm. Although much of the content was too damaged for recovery, it appeared that many of his notes on an “ancient treasure” in the mountains remained intact!

Based on his findings, Dr. Buckhorn believed that sculptures built around the city of Loveland hold the secret key and final location of the treasure! He was certain there are TWO sculptures which hold messages that must be deciphered in order, before obtaining the location to the final stage of the treasure….in the mountains…

It’s up to you to pick up where he left off…to follow his clues...and find the great treasure!

Your journey begins at the posted coordinates. At the sculpture you will find an explanation of the art, written in small lettering. Dr. Buckhorn discovered that numerical values of certain letters were the key to solving the puzzle. To get to the 2nd clue, discover the missing coordinates:

N 40 degrees 25.       W1L3,  W13L2,  W12L1

W 105 degrees 05.7   W4L2, W12L1

Once you discover the coordinates for the next stage, proceed accordingly and you should find yourself at a sculpture of similar design. Decipher the message there, to find the coordinates to the final location of the treasure!

To the final ….

N 40 degrees 25.06    W4L2

W 105 degrees 16.   W1L5,  W2L6,   W11L1

The treasure is hidden somewhere up in the mountains. Please use caution when you searching for the container. Always be safe. With your final coordinates in hand, it will be up to you to use whatever resources are available in order find the best route to the cache. Container is a well camouflaged, big enough for some swag or trackables.

Happy Hunting!

Denali50 and I had brunch at Red Robin with our son and grandkids the other day. Our two grandsons enjoy geocaching, so they twisted my arm and off we went on cache-hunting around Centerra. It was on this occasion that I sat and read the "story" of the ancient treasure, and vowed that I'd get after this multi soon. So today, my puppy Orizaba and I headed to the second stage, collected the needed information to define the coordinates for the final, and headed to the mountains. It was a nice hike to near the location of the final, and from there we dropped down and easily found the cache. After reading through the past logs, I left a traveler, sealed things up, rehid the cache, and we descended to parking. Thanks for a nice adventure!!

Thanks for the multi-cache.

I solved this one a long time back and just never have had the opportunity to go for the final. I wanted to set out some time since the rating showed a 4 terrain. This morning I had some time so I set out for the final. It was a fun hike and I took the hardest route, choosing to go off trail and explore on my way. The area was very pretty and I found the length and terrain of the final hike to be much easier than I had anticipated. When I accessed the treasure and log I found that it had been ten months since anyone put their signature down.

Thanks for a fun cache and final hike. One more smiley in the books.

I was getting my car serviced in Loveland when I noticed this multi "close by" (ha). Since waiting for service is boring, I solved the first part in the waiting room, then realized I could detour to the second stage on my way home. After I plugged in the coordinates, I quickly realized that the final was in semi-familiar territory, but also that it really would be a T4, and I shouldn't try it solo.

So I presented the problem to Path Pacer, and she quickly got the gist of the puzzle and solved for the coordinates too. Today we headed to the final area to finish off a few other caches, and slipped and slid our way to this one, with a few stray cuss words about the terrain. But there it was--hey, look inside that cache, I'm rich! Thanks for a fun one and my second D4/T4 of the day. Makes me feel semi-competent as a cacher...

Hoo boy, that was a climb! We should probably have come down from the trail, but it looked too steep so we decided to come up from the road. That was a really tough scramble. I can see why cacheman came down from the trail, then continued on down to the road. I can't believe someone did it in flip-flops! Anyway, the cache is in good shape. Thanks for the puzzle!

Nifty find! Pretty treacherous terrain, one of our group was wearing flip flops. We almost fell off of the mountain! Overall it was a 9.7/10 cache.

Much Love,
