A cache dedicated to the 1979-81 TV series that I loved as a kid (and roll my eyes at as an adult).

You've never heard of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, the scifi adventure series? Look at the info below this cache and series info.

Cache Info - Please Do Not Take the Show Memoribilia in the Cache

This container is about the size of a paperback novel and is covered in camo tape. It is tucked in a spot very much out of sight (to avoid muggle activity nearby) so please put it back exactly as you find it with native camo from the area placed over it.

Buck Rogers in the 25th Century

A 'theatrical' reboot movie of a vintage serial that was intentionally designed to kickoff a TV series, Buck Rogers was not exactly setting its own bar very high. The premise was that an Earth astronaut from 1987 (still a bit in the future at that point) became accidentailly frozen in deep space and was thought lost until being accidentaly found 500 years later by one of Earth's enemies. Captain Rogers eventually finds his way back to his home planet where he has to integrate into a futuristic, largely utopian society that lives in the shadow of its nuclear holocaust past. The series follows him as he shows the galaxy of the future that old Earth knew how to do it best, whether it be flying, fighting, dancing, or romancing. The show drips with the lead's past-its-expiration-date machismo, and the leader of Earth's defenses, Colonel Wilma Deering, the one female character with a shot of being a modern, strong woman, ends up swiming in his wake. In less than an hour she goes from a Princess Lea clone to another "Please Jim, teach me what is a kiss" original Star Trek alien female. All of that aside, I really loved the show as a kid ... especially since there was very little scifi to be had at that time. It helped me bide my time until Star Trek the Next Generation saved the day.

My favorite memories of the show involved its comic-relief sidekick android called Twiki (who ever thought of using droids as humerous side elements in scifi ...) who was supposed to be in charge of helping Capt. Rogers reintegrate with society ... but endend up enabling his degnerative tendencies, instead. From the moment I saw him, I thought Twiki looked like a robotic version of another TV star of the time, Gary Coleman from the show Different Strokes. Apparently I wasn't the only one who thought this, as it was about halfway into the first season that Gary Coleman was brought onto the show as a boy-genius from Buck's time who had been discovered crogenically frozen underneath Earth's new capital city. It was a hoot to see them work together. Incidentally, Twiki was voiced by the legendary Mel Blanc, who was the sound of nearly every Looney Toons character you ever heard of.

Wasn't a great fan of the show, but Twiki was the best part. Added the needed humor, I suppose. Couldn't ask for a nicer day to pick up the new ones in your series. Another cache well done! TFTH SL

We headed out to go clean-up new caches in Louisville, Boulder and Commerce city on a nice April day. Years ago we would go to the world of wheels at the old Currigan convention hall. Thanks for placing another fun cache in this series from another favorite TV show. Nice short walk to GZ. Very nice hide and camo, SL,TNLN,TFTC

I continued my morning jog along Coal Creek Trail to get this one. That was a super cool Buck Rogers comic book in the cache. I didn't read the whole thing but I thumbed through it and then put it back in it's little baggie. I didn't scare any wildlife at this stop. But I did hear a very pretty bird song. I couldn't actually see the bird but its song was just beautiful. Thanks for another fun find, Credo!
