Horsethief Bench trail in Kokopelli area
Hidden in the rocks is a treasure chest (in the form of a small blue/white tupperware). Not too far off the trail, but may be a little challenging.

Spotted it from a distance. Or at least the suspect area. Took me awhile to figure out how to get there. The previous log had me unnecessarily lifting big rocks lol. Thank you!

I told you I'd come back for you, buddy! First log in over seven years!

What a trek in- not that it was strenuous, but the views were impeccable. The hardest part though was finding which trail would take me there. Drove in on the main Kokopelli Trail road until I got to the gate. Parked the car there and walked up the road a couple hundred feet to the Mary's Loop trail. It routed along the top of the canyon above some other caches that I found a couple weeks ago. Got to the stone steps on the left and took those down to ground level. It was only a hop, skip, and a jump from there to GZ.

Upon arrival to GZ, the GPSr led me straight to where I would eventually find the cache. I climbed up to it, looked directly at where I later discovered in and thought, "That looks conspicuously like someone stacked those there." The large chunk of rock on top of the rock stack made me think that it couldn't be the cache though, so I didn't investigate further.

Fast forward thirty minutes to when I've checked every nook and cranny except that one and my GPSr is basically yelling at me to go recheck the first spot. So, I go up on the rocks once more. This time, however, I shined my flashlight back in there and could see something shiny through the container wall. Ah ha! I knew it! I shoved the 40ish pound rock off the top of the cache and found it nestled securely under the smaller stones.

I imagine it was due to the larger rock falling on it, but the lid as a hole scraped in it and is cracked on the edge. The inside was dry as a bone on this high wind speed day, but the CO might want to consider taking a look at this one if they're still active. TNLNSL and replaced with smaller stones on top instead of the larger, heavy rock. Lonely no more! TFTC!

It was getting dark by the time I started to head for this one, so I went back to the car instead. I shall return for you, my lonely friend. Stay strong!

After a little looking around finally found it. Nice hike but the tired dogs had a bit of a time with the rock steps on the way back up to Marys loop. Not to mention me. TNLN

Have a mini-family reunion going on this week so I decided to drag some people along on a cache hunt/hike today. Brought along the parents and my older sister's family. Gorgeous day for a walk along this trail. I've hiked Rustler's Loop and parts of Mary's loop before, but I had never dropped down onto the Horsethief loop before so I was glad to have a cache to go looking for.

Brother-in-law and nephew helped look for the cache when we got to the hiding area, but I still ended up locating it.

Had a nice snack and while we were munching on things we were visited by a happy little collared lizard who sat around watching us from his rock.

Thanks for the cache down here. =)
