CONGRATULATIONS TO Pixel Magic FOR THE FTF!!
I took a hike of the entire Hewlett Gulch Loop today with my puppies Orizaba and Chimborazo, primarily to enjoy the marvelous weather but also to check on several of my caches in the gulch. We encountered many other hikers enjoying the beautiful day, although most were in the lower sections of the gulch instead of on the loop trail. Almost all had one or two dogs, so Chimi and Zaba had plenty of doggie greetings to make along the route. That's a great feature of hiking in Hewlett Gulch--dogs don't need to be on leash!
As we made our way around the loop and got to a point that was approximately at the northern-most spot on the hike, I noticed a nice location to place a cache. You are the beneficiary--that is, if you enjoy long hikes in the mountains! To take the Hewlett Gulch Trail to the start of the loop, do the loop, and then take the Hewlett Gulch trail back to parking, involves about 9 miles of nice trail hiking and more than 1500 feet of cumulative elevation gain. So if you go after this cache budget appropriate time, pack a lunch and some extra food and plenty of water, and have your normal hiking emergency stuff along including your first aid kit--just-in-case you have a problem or encounter another hiker who needs some help.
The cache is a small container, placed in an area that has several hiding possibilities. Be persistent and you will locate it. Have fun, and be safe.
