What is it about a thorn choked gully that just proves to be irrestible?? Came over after Sheep Rock and worked my way around and past some large boulders before getting to GZ. Boy, that's a toughie to see - even went to the top of the needle to check there before finding it in the obvious (but I already looked there!) spot. As for the needle, I prefer my Pikes Peak granite a little less decomposed... Had planned to continue on to the "overlook" cache, but had very little remaining sole on my right shoe, so had to call it a day. Thanks for showing me this really special amphitheater!

I can't believe Adrenalin_Junkie did this one with his kid on his back! I don't think we made this hike tougher than it needed to be...maybe if we had headed to it after doing Sheep Rock, it would have been easier. I've learned to "trust my shoes" (as Ernie is always telling me) as I head down the smooth granite boulders. Climbing up this granite stuff is a different story. I finally had to resort to wearing gloves and I'm considering packing some sort of rubber wraps for my knees next time. And those bushes with the long spines – wow, what the heck are those?! OK, enough complaining. I have to admit, the cache was in a spectacular spot and I'm glad we did it. Thanks for the challenge.

Estes01 and I originally planned a different hike, but switched to this one this morning. I printed the topo map and off we went. We did well, following the Sheep Rock Trail, to a point about 500 feet from the cache. From there, we spent at least an hour trying to locate a way - any way - up, around, down, or through to the cache. Finally coming around below Needle Point and going up the draw through sticker bushes led to success, albeit a bruised and scratched one. An amazing location! SL, TFTC!

Getting to this cache from Sheep Rock was a bit of a navigational challenge. Then there was the path that we took to get back to the truck.. I lost count on how many times we got cliffed out. The 40 pound pack including the 30 pound kid within and the deer skull on the back made it a bit more challenging to navigate the boulders and washes. What a grand adventure with Swaltalicous today.

Last one for the day. We didn't find a good trail all day long so it turned out to be a long day of bushwacking but it was still a fun adventure.
