The Jim Henson Company is sponsoring Dinosaur Train themed geocaches. Each geocache features one of the dinosaurs found on the online Dinosaur Train Field Guide and contains educational information related to that dinosaur.
Our family decided to hide a cache for the Pteranodon near the Morrison Natural History Museum. Mostly because during our visit to the museum we discovered some interesting information related to the Pteranodon.

Pteranodon existed during the Late Cretaceous geological period of North America. It was one of the largest of the Pterosaur genera and had a maximum wingspan of over 6 meters (20 ft). Pteranodon is known from more fossil specimens than any other pterosaur, with about 1,200 specimens known to science.

What surprised us the most is that Pteranodon was a reptile, but not a dinosaur. By definition, all dinosaurs belong to the groups Saurischia and Ornithischia, which excludes pterosaurs. Nevertheless, Pteranodon is frequently featured in dinosaur books and is strongly associated with dinosaurs by the general public.

Cache can be accessed from the East parking lot of Mt. Falcon. The cache looks down on the museum, but don't access the cache from the museum.
