This cache part of a series of caches along the Made in the Shade loop trail in the Royal Gorge trail system. The whole loop is approximately 3.5 miles long. This is a popular mountain biking trail so watch for bikes and if you are mountain biking, be sure to move your bike out of the way of other bikers when looking for this cache. Click HERE for a map of the Royal Gorge trail system. The caches on the south side of the loop should be easily accessible most of the year. Snow and ice tend to linger a bit longer in the winter on the north side of the ridge so caution is advised in the winter months. Please stay off the trail when it is muddy.

A pegmatite is an igneous rock formed by slow crystallization at high temperature and pressure at depth, and exhibiting large interlocking crystals. The pegmatites at this site are part of an old quarry and are composed of white quartz, pink feldspar, and black mica. There are some rather large "books" of mica in the area. The trick in finding this cache will be figuring out which rock(s) to look under.

Veer to the right when you get to the quarry area. Look for a noticeable pile of white quartz rocks on the right about 15-20 feet from where the trail splits. You'll have to move a few white rocks to get at the cache.

Stopped by to double check the coordinates with a proper GPS device and came up with nearly the same coordinates. Added a little more info to the hint.

This is a really neat area. It took us quite a while to find it but persistence paid off. Finally found it about 35 feet to the East of the GZ. Nice BIG container! Stamped the log and we're off to the next one. No TOTT needed for this log! [8d][8d] SL TFTC TNLN

We tried to follow the advise of the cacher before us but to no avail. Geod9gs where getting hot and we had to pick some cactus out of their feet. What a cool place..was it an old mine?

FTF! with nite_raven at 1:55pm. This one took quite awhile. Couldn't get coordinates to decide on a spot. Spent forever searching all the wrong spots. Very cool place. Awesome rocks everywhere. Eventually gave up and just put the phones away and let our eyes wander. Finally found the big container and the blank log.
