This cache part of a series of caches along the Made in the Shade loop trail in the Royal Gorge trail system. The whole loop is approximately 3.5 miles long. This is a popular mountain biking trail so watch for bikes and if you are mountain biking, be sure to move your bike out of the way of other bikers when looking for this cache. Click HERE for a map of the Royal Gorge trail system. The caches on the south side of the loop should be easily accessible most of the year. Snow and ice tend to linger a bit longer in the winter on the north side of the ridge so caution is advised in the winter months. Please stay off the trail when it's muddy.

Gneiss (pronounced "nice") is a metamorphic rock that displays alternating bands composed of different minerals.
If you're doing the loop hike clockwise, this will be the first cache in the series that you encounter. Not far off the trail.

Congratulations to LeewayeDiscGolf and nite_raven for the FTF.

FTF! with nite_raven at 12:30pm. I was supposed to be in Sterling for work today but ended up being off after the boss's doctor visit yesterday sent him to the hospital today due to AFib. Didn't notice the new cache alerts until 8:30 this morning. We finished up what needed to be done at home today and decided we'd head up and give these a shot. With Pueblo weather not getting above 20° for the next 4 days we knew we better get out and enjoy a nice day while we could. Took awhile to creep out of Pueblo due to frozen roads and snow only to end up here, completely dry, hiking in just jackets, with 50° weather. Having previously done Point Alta Vista we knew right where to go. While getting that cache we talked about how long it would be until more caches popped up out here. Figured we'd start on the sunny side and see how far we could get. This was our first stop. I wonder what the old building below used to be? And does the trail use parts of the old quarry access road?
