Whenever hiking the beautiful Maxwell Falls area, I am often reminded of the Beatles song 'Maxwell's Silver Hammer'. The third song from their incredible Abbey Road album, musically it is a light-hearted, vaudevillian track that hearkens back to Paul McCartney's earlier recordings 'When I'm 64', 'You're Mother Should Know', and 'Honey Pie'. Lyrically however, it is quite the opposite: it tells the story of a boy named Maxwell Edison who goes around hitting people with his silver hammer. The recording sessions for this song essentially marked the end of The Beatles; it was one of the last songs recorded by the band (any Beatlemanic will know that even though The Beatles final album Let It Be was released after Abbey Road, the recordings [known as the Get Back sessions] occurred prior to the Abbey Road recording sessions). John Lennon, who had been in a car accident earlier and actually had a double-bed brought into the studio during his recovery, hated the song so much that he didn't even contribute to the recording. Ringo Starr and George Harrison were also highly vocal in their hatred of the song, which was compounded by McCartney's continued pressure to keep recording the prefect track in an attempt to release the song as a single (he actually wanted to record the song for the White Album but it was rejected by the three bandmates). Credited as the recording that shows why The Beatles broke up, 'Maxwell's Silver Hammer' may have been the hammer that drove the final nail into the coffin of the greatest band in the history of rock and roll.
There is a great lookout nearby that gives you a nice view into the canyon carved by Maxwell Creek. But also be on the lookout for Maxwell Edison's hardware at this cache location. BYOP and tweezers a must.

02/02/2020 By GeoDog74 WOW WOW WOW! After eating a big fat DNF for Breakfast, (thanks to the ever deviant Kitt5's latest submission), I came home and finished up my chores of moving the wood pile and getting ready for the big game. After I had the Pork Shoulder in the smoker, Shorty and I headed out in search of the Mt Porg Clan's new caches in the area. The weather was unbelievable up here today with temps pushing 60 degrees! And I needed to grab at least one Cache for the souvenir, and to keep my streak alive! This one really had Shorty and I stumped, I was familiar with the song, and spent a good 20 minutes wandering around aimlessly looking for any little clue. Finally out of the corner of my eye I spotted something......there it was! What a great container, and I love where it's placed, I came across one similar to this one not that long ago called Gone to the Birds GC836QY (So much fun!) Anyhow you guys sure have upped your game, and this cache earns another favorite from Shorty and me! Keep going guys, you're caches are top notch! TFTC
02/01/2020 By cajrrman This was my second FTF today after not having one in about a year. I looked all over the place for this cache and eventually gave up and went to the nearby Needles cache. But then I decided to return and found the cache immediately. By accident really. I really like this sort of cache hide technique and have been wanting to do one myself. I made the find at 10:50 am.
Now if I could only get that song out of my head...
