Found it on this trail that my wife hiked over forty years ago. We found the trail head last year and just got to it yesterday. This was our first time out geocaching in quite some time (think years). It's good to be back, especially with a fun and beautiful cache like this one. The views were amazing. We found the old mine. The aspen colors were remarkable. We had forgotten rule number 1 -- bring a pencil! We were about to let some blood to sign the log when our good friend Barb remembered she had seen an old campfire nearby and found some charcoal we could use. We left a small piece in the cache for the next person who made the same (beginner) mistake. Thanks for getting us back in the hunt.

I was in the area, so you know how that goes... Trail is a bit eroded in places, but enjoyed getting up to the overlook. Container was missing once again, so replaced it. Thanks for bringing me up here.

See previous comments from Big Bear 1 and Jherber. Beautiful view from the top, but the climb about did us in...

TFTC After climbing up to the Cookie Monster's Eye earlier in the day, NiceHice, BigBear1 and I parked at the trailhead and headed up the Golden Stair Trail. After reading some of the earlier logs and noting the 3 Terrain rating, I was not expecting such a serious climb. Maybe the climb to the Cookie Monster's Eye was affecting this trio of older flatlanders. As we all slowed our pace, we noticed the time passing on the clock and the 'time moving' on the GPS were diverging. Over time the time resting was equaling the time moving. By the time we arrived at GZ, we were ready for another rest, but the anticipation of finding the cache led us onward. Our GZs were very close and we looked and looked, but could not come up with the cache. After some contemplation and reading the previous logs, I decided to phone a friend who had found it in Spring 2011. After discussing the hide, we discovered we were looking in the right spot, and since it had not been found for over a year, we decided to REPLACE the container. BigBear1 graciously donated his large mouth water bottle and some paper. After hiding the water bottle cache in the same place with some blocking rocks we enjoyed the view before heading down the trail. Our one mile journey uphill took us one hour and the trip down was twenty minutes. A long way from the 45 minute round trip by Vorticity, but we all get to enjoy a new Smiley Face. Thanks for the adventure. Let me know if we acted too soon in replacing the cache.
