Until 2016, the portion of I-70 between Genesee Park and El Rancho (Evergreen Parkway) was the only stretch of this highway between Denver and Glenwood Springs where cyclists would actually have to ride ON THE SHOULDER OF THE INTERSTATE!!! Prior to that time, cyclists could use a combination of old highways (U.S. 40, U.S. 6), bike paths (e.g., Glenwood Canyon, Vail Pass), and frontage roads to bike the approximately 160 miles between these two locations - with the exception of the 2.4 mile stretch of I-70 west of Genesee Park. With the completion of this bike path, riders can no longer worry about riding next to semi's, RV's, and thousands of cars heading into or out of the Colorado Rockies. Although the majority of the path is located immediately along the highway, there are areas where riders, joggers, or hikers can enjoy the smell of the large ponderosa pines that tower over the trail, observe the elk and bison herds roaming the large enclosures on the north side of the trail, and... geocache!!! Numerous caches are located along this bike path and several more are hiding a throughout the forest if you are willing to venture a little further off the trail. If you're not up for tackling a bike ride from Denver to Glenwood Springs, this trail makes for a great day outing on the bike (5 miles out and back). Just make sure you have plenty of air!!

[FTF] 01-18-2020 at 6:58 pm. I need an FTF today and was happy to see several caches publish. But I was busy until the evening. Once done, I checked and this one was still unfound. I took the short drive, found convenient parking, and made the quick find. Cool container deserves a fav.
