High above the intersection of High Drive, Gold Camp Road and Bear Creek Drive, a rugged granite sentinel has been waiting for me to figure out how to get up to it. Ernie66 and I discovered a trail that eventually leads to the top of Section 16 and connects to the Palmer Trail. This rock is on a short side trail. No need to bushwhack.

Congratulations to hartsdale for his 1,307th FTF!

Found this one on day 2,327 of my current geocaching streak. Since I came off the CDT last year, I really haven’t returned to the mountains. In that time both my fitness level, mind and log writing skills have turned to mush while I’ve digested all of the 1.5s/1.5s caches to keep my streak going. I’ve finally decided it is time to get back on the trail. I cleared this area of all of the caches I was interested in back in 2013, but like vegetation, new ones have grown back. I decided this “new” (to me) cluster (GC7025Y Amazing Grace, GC6ZBY4 Easter in January, GC6ZNHX Inside the Loop, GC6ZNHR High Above Hunters Run, GC1413R Bark, GC6ZD4R High Above High Drive) placed by the usual suspects seemed like a perfect warm up hike.

I came at this one from GC1413R Bark. I read the log CVA64 left on that cache detailing his route from this cache to that one. I expected difficult terrain based on his comments, but I managed to find a number of “goat trails;” so the movement to here wasn’t so bad. There is a scree field near the GZ. However, given the CO, I anticipated this type of terrain. I brought a pair of flip-flops for just such a contingency and crossed it pretty easily. Unlike many caches, I was punished for getting behind and above this cache as it was not the right way to go. I was confronted with a small (6 foot) cliff blocking my access to the container. Since I was too lazy to walk the 2 minutes to go around it, I jumped into a nearby tree and climbed down. Don’t be too impressed, it sounds cooler than it looked. I didn’t find the “Estes helping hand” that CVA64 mentioned in his log. That is probably for the best, because I’m sure for me the middle finger would have been extended for my visit. I did find a “goat trail” that quickly took me straight down into the draw, allowing me to get back to my vehicle in about 10 minutes. That was a pleasant bonus. Thanks to the CO for placing this nice cache for everyone to find, TFTC.
