"The Epicenter" is a striking public art piece highlighting the main entrance to Weidner Field in Downtown Colorado Springs. The iconic $4.5 million sculpture showcases two interlocking rings illuminated by colored LED lights. The interlocking rings represent the numerous U.S. Olympic national governing bodies in the city while also tying in with the Olympic and Paralympic Museum a block to the north.
The sculpture welcomes visitors to Downtown as they travel over the Cimarron Street bridge. Weighing in at more than 164,000 pounds and spanning 65 feet, it was designed and fabricated locally with more than 20,000 work hours going into its construction. Dean Weidner donated the art piece to the community as part of a vision of the re-emergence of southwest Downtown as a place where people want to live, work, and play. The stadium is home to the Colorado Springs Switchbacks Football Club and also hosts concerts and other events.
To log this geocache:
- A photo of the sphere is required. The photo must be attached to your Found-It log entry and it must include yourself (no face required) or a personal item, either directly or in reflection. You do not need to enter the stadium. You can stand on the street corner as I did when taking this photo (that's me in the white hat at the center of the daytime photo). You may also take your photo from inside the facility during an event as long as the photo includes the sphere and yourself or a personal item.
Congratulations to EJKPBR -- First to Find!
