Available during winter  Cross Country Skis  Seasonal Access

Please Note - Special regulations exist for access to this cache, depending on the time of year.

From November 15th to April 30th, Little Raven Trail is a cross country ski trail. During this time, the trail is SKIS ONLY and no pets are allowed. I hid this cache in January of 2019 and my intention is for it to be found during the winter on skis. The trail itself is rated as "moderate" for some steep ascents/descents. Access to the Little Raven Trail during the winter is from the Gateway Trailhead.

During the summer months, Little Raven Trail is open to hiking. Dogs are allowed and the trail can either be accessed from the Brainard Lake Area or Lefthand Park Reservoir Road.

The cache is a small plastic pill container hanging about 6 feet off the ground on the backside of a large tree on the downhill side of the trail.

The ski conditions up at Brainard Lake are fantastic right now. And the cache is in place and ready to be found. Strap those skis on and get it!

Whoa! There's a lot of snow in the Brainard Lake area right now!! I traveled down to the area today with three primary target caches, all three with no finds so far, including this one. After arriving at the trailhead and getting set, I headed up the Lefthand Reservoir Rd thinking I'd do Whoa! What Remarkable Views first and if I still had any time I'd try for the other two. Well, I was way off in my projection of the difficulty of the plan. I went in about 1.5 miles to a point I decided to turn left and head for the ridge. I only got about 100 yards from the road before deciding that I was biting off more than I could chew. I was sinking to my knees and deeper in the deep powder while trying to climb the ridge. Because I was solo and had no one to help trench, and because I am pretty out of shape right now, I knew I'd never make it and aborted that plan. So because it was still early I decided to try for the other two caches.

This cache was my next objective. Because it is off a ski-only trail and I was on snowshoes, I knew I'd have to go cross country to get to it, so after returning to the road I turned left and headed for Lefthand Reservoir. I made it to the reservoir and followed top of the dam to its NW end. Checked the GPS and it showed I had a quarter mile to go to get this cache. Of course that's as the crow flies and there was no trail from there to the cache! After leaving the dam I struck out across untouched powder. The snow conditions were pretty much the same as I encountered previously, DEEP! But at least after a little bit of climbing the rest was mostly down hill. That quarter mile took me just about 1/2 hour to traverse, it was SLOW going!! But eventually I made it to GZ and it was a quick find. Signed the log in the {FTF} position and after placing everything back in order, I loaded up CMC Ski Trail on the GPSr and continued on.

Thanks jrj1980 for this nice cache in the woods!!!
