Women's clubs are a special part of this country's history. Some were created as literary social groups, others were formed to create a communal voice allowing women to make political change even without having a right to vote. In either case, these groups provided women a way to build friendships and a sense of community.

In Delta County, most mesa's had their own community club. Cedar Mesa was no different and formed its club just after the turn of the century. The Cedar Mesa Community Club still continues to operate in a way that it has since its creation with monthly meetings of women who live on the top of Cedar Mesa.

Cedar Mesa Community Club was founded in 1908 by a group of ladies living on Cedar Mesa. The members first met in member's homes. By the late 1940's the group was too big to meet in homes. By a generous donation and fundraisers, the clubhouse was built on land deeded to the club from a community member, with the hard work of husbands. The clubhouse remains much as it was in 1950. Originally the clubhouse was heated by a wood stove, which was later replaced with a pellet stove. Facilities at the clubhouse remain the original outhouse for the property. In June of 2016, the clubhouse was added to Colorado State Register of Historic Places.

spotted this from the cachemobile while the hubby was going in the wrong direction! Dah!
We always appreciate caches that pinpoint spots of historical significance. TFTC visited bugs

We saw this pop up several weeks ago and SHOULD have gone out THEN and gotten FTF but wind and snow was a blowin so decided not to, then forgot about it. Later noted that Pathfinder33 went all the way from Montrose and got FTF - ARGH!
BUT that then saved it for us to use for our 02022020 souveneir cache so all was not lost.
Did not re-read description from inital set a month ago, working from memory, drove up and followed GPS which zeroed out on a fence post, dug in the snow, went to next fence post and at the same time the Ms. is hollering at me "ITS HERE" She spotted it from the car and I was going the wrong direction! Coords close enough for an easy find. Have never seen a cache quite like that one! Recalled that original facilities were still in service, spotted it and thought about using it but the hip deep (strike that - angle deep) snow made me think again, and a cold seat? NA.

FTF with LolosDream today. We saw this one get published, but had several weekends of skiing planned. So with the same thing planned on this long weekend coming up I made an effort to grab it today when it was not to far out of the way. Very cool container, not sure I had seen one like this before. Cache was nice and dry and in good shape. TFTC.
