I pulled up to the short route and thought it might be a poor choice for me. Bad knees and slippery, snow covered rocks seem risky. So I found the alternative route and parked at the edge of Cub Creek Park at N 39° 36.682 W 105° 19.195. The walk over was beautiful. I saw faint footprints in the snow and suspected that they might belong to the CO when he placed the cache. But as I headed toward the GZ the footprints wandered from where I was headed. Sometimes the prints would be covered and suddenly I see them again. The chill in the air is perfect for hiking - chilly enough to keep me motivated and dense enough to make breathing a little easier. Once I was near the GZ I navigated up toward the top and quickly saw the host. I took a few pictures, stamped my name on the log, and headed back.
Interesting thing about snow. On the way up I saw old signs of deer and fresh signs of a coyote. On the way back I saw fresh signs of deer, but never saw one. Neat how the snow is like a timeline of an invisible world. Of course, I know deer are up here, but this was like a footprint map of where they were.
Thanks for the creative cache and the fun adventure.

A real challenge: both the climb and the hide. HINT: the climb up from the nearby Black Forest Road is steep, slippery and jumbled. More than earns the rating even before the slick snow. That said, the view is sparkling. Earns a favorite point. Thanks for placing this cache. K7

[FTF] @ 8:07! Snow/check...Minus 2 degrees/check....Steep bushwack in said conditions/check!
"Wierdo" is what my wife called me as I alerted her to the new publish a mere 3 miles down the road. She's becoming a little bit alarmed at the lengths I'm willing to go to in the name of this crazy game/hobby/lifestyle! I parked as close to the GZ as I could and began the steep climb up the hill through loose snow and plenty of deadfall. Once I arrived at the top, I was stunned at how perfect the view is up here, and it's a great place for a new cache as well! I spent about 5 minutes walking in circles with a jumpy GPS, once I let it settle down I discovered the well concealed cache! I stamped my name in Pole Position, snapped a few pictures, removed the Power Gel (critters will eat it and steal your cache), and then made my way back down picking up your trail along the way. All in all I was able to accomplish my mission in 45 minutes and back home in time to make breakfast for the kiddos who just woke up! Earns a favorite for multiple reasons: 1. A new hide by a new Cache Owner in the area (keep going, I have 200 hides up here!) 2. A well thought out container that took effort to put together. 3. Fantastic locale with great 180 degree views of the valley. 4. Always award FTF caches a favorite! Thank you very much to adding to our ever growing Evergreen Geocache collection! TFTC!
