This cache is located on BLM property and just a short walk from the parking area. Parking is located in the fork of the wye intersection. Be careful of slippery rocks and whipping brush. Ticks can be of concern during the summer months.
This cache is located at the mouth of the Battlement Creek Drainage. The Battlement Mesa area has been home to numerous wildland fires. Most of these have been started by lightning strikes. This cache is hidden in part of the Battlement Creek Fire of 1976. It was started by a lightning strike on private property and spread south, up the Battlement Creek drainage onto BLM property and ended up becoming 880 acres in size. The fire was largely in oak and sage brush fuel types, inter mixed with pockets of pinyon / junipers trees. Most of the fire scortched pinyons and junipers have fallen over from the winds and age. Be on the lookout for small animals - rabbits, skunks, porcupines and lizards. Large animals include deer, elk, possibly bear, mountain lions, bobcats and fox. Several birds are native to the area - eagles, hawks, vultures, ravens, magpies, pinyon jays, woodpeckers and more. Bring a camera and enjoy the view.

The cache is an ammo can and was originally filled with log, sunglasses, dinosaur, pencil, crayons, Sparky magnet, compass, frog, four coins, army men, toy car, Donald Duck and a stainless steel bolt.

Congratulations to go pokes for the FTF :0)

Lots of trash here. :( Did our part to try cleaning it up some. I'll have to return sometime w/ more trash bags. TFTC, though! At least I got the find. :)

Last cache of the day and we couldn't find it!! Maybe we were getting tired (I know I was). Coords took us right to the hint area but no luck today.

Hmmm, it really seemed we should have found this. The coordinates took us right to what was described in the hint. We knew what the container was, and it's size-yet we came up empty. Are we over confidant , or is is possible this one has been taken? Spent shotgun shells were right at coordinates making me wonder if a hunter might have stumbled upon it this fall?
