CONGRATULATIONS TO COpackrat FOR FTF!!
What a cache name! I made the hike into Point 8228 to hide this cache with two friends, just after a snowstorm. We approached using a remote route from the southwest side, and considered ascending the cliffy west side of the peak to the summit. But the new snow on steep slabs made for a tricky, unsafe ascent from the west. One of our party slipped and performed a reverse somersault as he bounced down about 15 feet to a stop. His somersault form would have earned high marks from judges in an Olympic competition, and making the move as a backflip would have earned uniformly high difficulty points, too. The spill was a cross between moves in a gymnastics event and in a high platform diving competition. So “Reverse Somersault Style Points” fits this cache-hiding experience nicely. We are fortunate that no injuries occurred.

There is a safe way to approach the peak’s summit, from the east off the Kelly Flats jeep road system; when you get near the top find an easy solution to scramble to the summit on the northeast aspect of the rocky projection. It’s probably best to go after this cache when the area is free of snow.

Views from the summit are marvelous. You will have the feeling that no one else has been there before you, even though it’s reasonably close to jeep access. The cache is within a few feet of the actual top, in an area that is safe to be on. Look for a camoed peanut butter container. Enjoy your experience at Point 8228, and make certain you also find the other caches along the Kelly Flats jeep road!

After scoring a FTF on The Doggie Hike, I eyed Point 8228 just as Denali41 did the day he placed it. I decided to continue up the ridge with the plan being to approach X8228 from the NW. The plan worked out pretty well as the further up the ridge I went, the drainage between me and the peak rose to meet me so I didn't have to drop too much elevation to cross the drainage. After crossing I made my way up the slope and topped out on the ridge to the north of 8228. I picked my way through the brush and rocks and soon I was at GZ. With only a brief search, the container was in hand. After signing the log I took some photos and took in the marvelous views all around. I descended to the NW, the way I came up, and then worked my way around to the south side of 8228. Followed the ridge all the way down to the creek and then followed the creek back to the truck at the highway. Thanks Steve for this cache that's likely to not get too many visitors. To me that makes it special.

This one has been on my list for a while. My girlfriend and I attempted to find a route from the North with no luck so then we decided to head up heartbreak hill and snag a few before heading to this one. We found the cache with out any problem. Then we decided to take a more direct route back to the car, bad idea. Man those canyons are deep. TFTC.

What a nice day for a walk in the woods! I did some diving as a kid, so when I got up to the summit, I quickly donned my Speedo and climbing helmet and gave the old reverse somersault a couple of tries. I don't know if it was the brisk breeze, or just my failure to find a suitable launch site, but unlike your climbing companion, my attempts met with abject failure and I was sorry to not have invested in the fancy Kevlar Speedo instead of my flimsy one. Oh well, it's just minor hull damage, and will heal soon... and I had a fair number of band aids in my first aid kit, although a band aid body suit would have come in handy.... Thanks for a fun cache in a cool location!

Congratulations to Kaiwarrior and son for a valiant attempt! This one still needs to be found... As a general note, when the First Finder gets to the cache he/she will find several names on the cache log. These were folks who were with me on my two earlier summits of this peak. THE FTF IS STILL AVAILABLE TO THE FIRST CACHER WHO GETS TO THIS CONTAINER!!
