Placed in honor of what would have been my sister Laura Ann Wilson's 50th Birthday. Laura loved the mountains, playing music, dogs and any type of adventure. On a windy late weekend in September, many years ago (maybe 2007?), we hiked the Vindicator Valley Loop with Laura, her husband, her very young nephews (my sons), my husband, and Laura's dogs. The trail is packed with Colorado mining history and all along the trail the creaky old metal structures whined and banged in protest against the blustery winds that trailed two very excited little boys who ran from structure to structure. A few years later, Laura would introduce her nephews to geocaching. Placing the geocache seemed a fitting tribute to a woman who was always encouraging people to join her in her love of the wild outdoors.
The cache box is a small waterproof clear box with a yellow liner. It is well marked as "Laura's Lucky 50" and stocked with finder's treasure that belonged to Laura (donated by her husband Ken). We chose the location in the hopes that once you find it you will first be imbued with good luck and second an appreciation of all the beauty and history that surrounds you.
Laura would have liked that. Happy hunting!
P.S. We made the mistake of packing a pen not a pencil, which given the weather may not work for the log book in the cache.
