Located off U.S. highway 24 near Manitou Springs, Williams Canyon is arguably the most beautiful limestone canyon on the Front Range.

The best way to get to Williams Canyon is to walk or drive north up Cañon Avenue from downtown Manitou Springs. Park before the sign indicating residents only and walk up the street to the beginning of the trail.

The trail passes through an incredible limestone canyon and climbs to a beautiful, but occasional, waterfall. After you find the cache, if you have time, it's worth following the trail as it continues along a creek through a wooded area. It eventually emerges on Rampart Range Road.

The trail can be icy in winter, so you might want to consider Yaktrax or some other type of micro spikes. Because GPS multi-pathing is so prevalent in this steep canyon, I have included a spoiler photo.

***Congrats to jadum for the FTF on 12/01/09***

Lemonheadmafia climbed down for some close up photos of the falls while I headed up to the cache. Everything is in good shape. I sat and enjoyed watching a trio of hikers walking below me. Sl, thanks!

We haven’t been on Williams Canyon Trail since before the Waldo Canyon Fire. We were amazed at the effects of the floods that have come down the canyon since the fire. We searched for the container for about 15 minutes due to the GPS bounce and the abundance of hiding places near GZ. Eventually our GPS settled down and we found the cache right where it ought to be. Signed log and replaced container as found. Thanks for the fun cache.

Wow- A new step higher on the 'My favorite Hike' list! I'm amazed this doesn't get more business ... is it relevant to Cave of the Wind's sign at the bottom ? Did it get treated more seriously when this was once a more traditional exit from the tourist spot?
Well, as it appears the way is no longer barred officially if you come from RR Road, I took my chances from Canon. I fit every piece of trash I came across in one of my jeans back pockets; saw & heard butterflies and birds all morning 'till the rain started; two other hikers came along quickly and left as soon as they saw the falls; and got a handful of long-unvisited caches logged. Amazingly, only one stop saw my gpsr needle wandering hopelessly.
Thanks for sharing an amazing secret, E01!

Making my way up the canyon today hearing the zip line peeps enjoy their time, the water cruising by and the squirrel look at me saying (in a thought balloon) "Who are you and what are you doing here?!"

Tftc Estes, it looks good in its spot.

Wow, so different from the landscape I am used to. Glad I had ColoradoPaul to lead the way although I was first to spot the cache!
