Found on a beautiful day of hiking and great conversation with gampa&gamma! I've been meaning to explore the Waldo Canyon area for a while, and today was the day. My mom was unexpectedly in town for a little longer than anticipated, so she joined us, too...for an excellently tiring hike that ended up being longer than expected, as well (and uphill on the way back, even)! I thought we were only going for 4 (or maybe 8 caches if we were feeling it), but we got to GZs for 10! Along the way, my mom decided that she'd finally get her own geocaching account for all the traveling she does, too. We have a convert, haha! This really is a fantastic view; thank you for placing this cache!

We enjoyed an incredibly beautiful Colorado day of hiking and caching with Kerewin0430 and her mom. Quick find, signed log, enjoyed the view and replaced as found. Thanks!

Thanks for the lonely cache!!! Today I needed to get out as I've been feeling pretty down. I've been eyeing these caches since the are "Opened" back up. I made a few quick stops before heading up the mountain. I approached all the ones I found today from below at one of the pull offs just past Waldo Canyon. It was a steep climb but I managed a good time up and around a large loop to find 7 and 1 DNF. Found this one quickly and stamped and signed below 3 Williams Kidz. Great location for some amazing views! Thanks for placing this for us all to enjoy and amazing that it survived the fire and all this time!

Bit late logging this one and now I can't even remember when I did it...some time shortly after the 3 Williams kidz did it, I think. Another amazing view of the peak. TFTC.

After more than 5 years of being in the closed burn zone, I found the cache today in GREAT shape !!!
The Waldo Canyon Wildfire broke out on June 23, 2012. Since then, the area has been closed to hikers, including the area where this cache is. Then, on October 3, 2017, the US Forest Service issued Order PSICC-2017-22, which reopened the area for hiking, but no overnight camping or campfires. I parked north of Severy Road in Cascade at a trailhead, and hiked southeast to GZ.
My trek today consisted of going for 7 caches, quitting after 4, and heading back out towards Cascade, going for this one last (making this #5).
Summary (see each log entry of mine for details):
1. Smokey's Stash (GCMYV0) -- found the incinerated ammo can, and replaced it with a plastic container with geo-stuff in it
2. Sushi (GC17H98) -- DNF
3. Howard's Rock (GCP952) DNF
4. Lord of the Rocks -- gave up and turned back before getting to GZ
5. Then I went for this one on the way back and WOO-HOO !!!
Photo of the logsheet is attached, as well as the view of Pikes Peak today around noon. GREAT ending to a challenging hike, and while not the most successful day of caching, a very memorable experience.
Stamped the log, traded a little swag, and dropped off a trackable -- Cold Barley Soup (aka BEER!) because if anyone manages to make it to this cache, they have most certainly WELL DESERVED a tasty beverage. Although, all I left was a beer trackable, and not a real beer. Sorry, future cachers.
TFTC !!!

PS -- in the attached photo of the logbook, you can see that the previous cacher that logged a find -- xzavier rooks -- did not sign the logbook. I checked his/her/their public profile and on that day, they logged finds in Illinois, Denver, and this one in the Colorado Springs area. And no others in the Colorado Springs area. Since that would have meant hiking past several other caches before getting to this one, I believe that they did find a cache titled "pikes peak view", but is wasn't this one, and they made an erroneous log entry.

First find in over 5 years, cache in great shape

Had a great hike to the cache. The trail from the Waldo Canyon split is really suffering from the weather, made for a challenging trek. Thanks for the cache!
