Micro cache is modeled after some other natural element caches I have seen. Log only, please bring your geo pencil. Parking is available at N39° 49.587 W104° 58.030. Nice area for a lunch break, walk or bike ride.

Though I am allergic to the seeds, this site is to honor the Cottonwood Tree. The Cottonwood is the state tree for both Kansas and Nebraska. While cottonwood wood is not well suited to building (the wood is too soft, porous and weak), the trees grow very quickly to provide shade on the sun-baked prairie! Under ideal conditions, cottonwood can grow to 100 feet high in fifteen years. Cottonwood trees like lots of water, so settlers knew that water was nearby when they saw the trees in the distance. Later, when water rights were being negotiated (an ongoing western states issue), the number of cottonwoods was considered because they used so much water themselves. The female trees release the famous fluffy cottonwood seeds in early summer. In a large grove, it the fluffy cottonwood seeds can look like a small Hollywood snowstorm. When the trees break from lightening, storms or die from age or insects, the easily hollowed branches and trunks become homes for many birds, rodents and reptiles (oh yea, geocaches too!). Many woodcarvers and whittlers dry the thick chunks of bark and use the bark for relief carving.

good hide thanks for the fun and the hide

It was challenging to find a parking spot nearby with all of the construction in the area. The tree is trying to reclaim the cache and it was difficult to extract. Otherwise the cache is in good shape. One of the four trees has been cut down. TFTC

Out for a masked geocycle ride on a day when the paths aren’t busy. This one was out in the open so I tucked it up out of sight a bit in the same set of 4 trees in a little nook. I love Cottonwoods. They are so tall and majestic. The beavers have gotten to these trees though. Looks like Denver City (if that is where I am on the geocycle now...hard to tell) has been putting chicken wire around them to protect them. TFTC!

Found with Chihuahuas-3 and 2lablovers after we attended the fun Warp Factor 77 Mr Scott with the 77's event today. We're picking up a few more Planetary Pursuit points so we can see what's beyond Pluto! Thank you for the cache and for adding to our fun.

Cleared up one DNF today. Definitely not where the hint would indicate. TFTC. On to the next.

Cache was wedged in there really good. I was able to get the log out without removing the cache. Thank you for placing this cache and helping to keep our recreation going.

After some shopping at Bass Pro Shops on my day off from work, I decided to tote along my bike for some riding and caching afterwards. I rode about twelve miles and grabbed a dozen or so caches. Not too many muggles this afternoon, but definitely some shady people around here. TFTC!

This had the makings of another DNF for today, but T&A137 saved us with his eagle eye and perseverance. Thanks for the fun hide.

On the trail with T&A137 and FearTheFish. We were running out of time and trying to keep it moving. We were very close to calling this a DNF (along with so many others today) but T spotted it as we were about to leave the area. Didn't correspond with the hint completely. But half of it was right! Glad we made this find.
