This is a historical experience provided by the Doctor Susan Anderson Chapter, NSDAR.

This cache is devoted to the Leyden Mine marker placed by the Doctor Susan Anderson Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) and their goal to promote historical preservation in the Arvada community. With City approval, the Doctor Susan Anderson Chapter placed the rock on December 14, 2012, 102 years after the mine accident, in Pattridge Open Space, close to the location of the mine. The bench was added October 11, 2015 as part of the 125th Anniversary celebration of the founding of NSDAR by the Doctor Susan Anderson Chapter, NSDAR.

The Leyden Mine was a major coal mine in Colorado, producing coal to power industries, fuel the tramway, and warm homes. Mining activity began in 1865 and the mine closed in 1950. Many miners lived in houses located close to here.

Eleven miners died as a result of a coal fire on December 14, 1910 at this mine. Please take a moment to remember these miners: John Augustine, Frank Cskatti, Eli Devey, Frank Goatira, Lester Jones, Frank Merrick, Louis Merrick, Nicholi Miliksic, Fred Neumeyer, George Supanchis, and Louis Zuber.

Looked around for about 10 minutes without success. There are weeds around the main rock that may be making it harder to find.

I'm very glad that I was in the area today and had a chance to finally come search for this geocache. I LOVE that it's by an historic marker. I enjoyed reading the marker, then found the cache and then sat for a bit on the fine bench. Smile And such a pretty autumn day to be "out and about" geocaching too! TNLNSL. TFTC. Good job in placing this geocache. I'll give it one of my "Favorite" points.
