I managed to make the find on this one today and it is definitely the highlight (along with finding the nearby GC289NW Flyin Raisin) of my day and visit to Eleven Mile State Park. Because I’m a smart geocacher, I contacted WingsAndTails for intel on the route. Given her comments navigating here was quite easy; although actually doing the hiking not so much. For me, the effort to get to this cache was quite deceptive. It was a cool day in the lower 50s, and the combined with the wonderful, open spaces I was encouraged to pick up my pace for the ascent. I didn’t realize how much effort I expended to I arrived at GZ and took my pack off to begin the search. Only then did I realize my shirt was covered in sweat…sorry for the visual. Enroute, there was a number of downed trees, but I was able to find bypasses without a problem. Despite the altitude, there wasn’t much of a view with all of the tree cover. To me, this a bonus because sacrificing view is a good trade for protection from the elements considering I had five hail and one thunderstorm today. If the historical activity remains constant, then I will be the only visitor this year...such a shame. Thanks to the CO for placing this nice cache for everyone to find, TFTC.

I parked as high as I dared on a Forest service road which was about 0.7 miles and 1000 feet of elevation from the cache. I found a trail that cut over to the fence line and followed it up the hill. That was a lot of up in a short distance and about half of my total for the day after going on up the ridge to Flyin Raisin. Thanks for a point to shoot for along the way and a less common D/T combo. Glad this hike was shorter than the last one I did up here... :-) Beautiful day for a walk, and the hike went smoothly. Love the stamp!! Thanks for the letterbox!

Nice morning for a hike. Cool to start with and then it warmed up. When I started out there was a faint trail that went away and then I found it again. There was still some snow on the ground from the last storm. It was an easy hike untill I went thru the gate and started up the hill. The ground was still wet from the morning dew which made it slick in spots. I made it up to the tree line and then the hike slowed to a crawl because there was about 2" of snow on the ground which made it really slow going!! The last quarter mile seemed like it took forever!! Once I got to the GZ it was a quick easy find. Nice stamp!! I took a picture to have but I won't post it and give it away. Signed the log and started the hike back down. Great views from the top of the hill. [8d][8d] SL TFTC TNLN

This is a perfect example of why one should not say that they will never do a hike again. When we did Flyin Raisin in May 2011 I wrote that I complained endlessly about the terrain because of my recently sprained ankle. Over the years I've learned that not only doesn't the terrain change, but Ernie still doesn't listen to my complaining. The hummocks and deadfall are still there, but today they were hidden by about 2 or 3 inches of snow. Perfect. It's still the same fantastic view from up there, but we didn't have to go as far this time. Thanks for the cache and the ammo can :-)

As we approached parking, the blowing snow was crossing the road, reducing visibility to near zero. We got to FR888 and ventured off through the unbroken snow to a vaguely familiar parking spot. We'd been here over 5 years before, but I didn't recognize anything covered in snow. No matter - we knew what we needed to do - go straight up ... and up ... and up until we got there. One step at a time - some 6000 steps ... more or less. And that's exactly what happened - I think. Great cache - thanks! Fantastic spot.
