Placed by request of the Colorado Historical Society.

The first occupant of this facility was the man who built it.  The Sell Brothers were important stonemasions in Canon City's early days.  Contracted to construct this building for the 'wild' town of Prospect Heights where there were no restrictions to the partying, it continued 24/7, attended by miners and residents from Canon City (which was 'dry'.}  Mr Sell put up the sturdy little structure fairly quick as his friends lent a hand and/or just watched.  As the place was battened down with window and door bars the mayor arrived with the check for payment.  Mr Sell and his friends took the wages and joined the fastivities just down the street. Before the sun arose Mr. Sell was slapped into the facility as the bars banged shut. When he sobered up he was released.
