Returned to this cache to return CO's Path-tag coin, which I mistakenly thought was a travel bug. I LOVE this special spot, and this geocache is my most favorite fav.

I picked this one up while in the local area during the end of the June transition month for what I called the "Freeze and Fry Run"...snivel cold at night and in the morning, sun beating hot in the afternoon. I had to go to Cortez, CO to pick up some old friends from New Jersey to act as their tour guide while enroute to DIA. Of course, I was trying to hike and pick up a few caches before they arrived. I had DNF'ed on this one during a run in April 2015 because the road to this area appeared to be closed. I was happy to turn that frown upside down today. I was attracted to it because it had a good D/T rating and it seemed like it would be fun.

Unfortunately, I wasted allot of time driving around the trails back here trying to figure out how to get to the GZ. Like other caches in this area, a waypoint or two would be helpful. I eventually got to within a half a mile of the GZ but was confronted by a little used and semi-overgrown side "road" that negotiated a steep slope to the elevation of the GZ. My lazy side convinced me my Xterra could handle that, but in the end I decided to hike it in. That was a good call, because on closer inspection, the scree, loose rock, and deceptively steep slope would have likely caused a disaster. Once I gained the ridgeline, I was slightly annoyed to see a trafficable road passing near here from the north. Once again I lamented the lost time from a lack of waypoints. Taking a wider view of the area, I immediately noticed how the cache got its name and let out a little chuckle, "I wonder where it could be." Definitely cool site selection on the part of the CO. I was happy to make the find with no drama and took a moment to enjoy the view...when the wind allowed me to stand straight up that is. Thanks to the CO for placing this nice cache for everyone to find and bringing me to this super cool spot, TFTC.
