Native American Tribe Series.

Niantic  (contr. of Naïantukq-ut ‘at a point of land on a [tidal] river or estuary.’)

An Algonquian tribe formerly occupying the coast of Rhode Island from Narragansett Bay to about the Connecticut state line.  Their principal village, Wekapaug, was on the great pond near Charlestown.  They were closely connected with the Narraganset forming practically one tribe with them. By refusing to join in King Philip’s war in 1675 they preserved their territory and tribal organization and at the close of the war the Narraganset who submitted to the English were placed with the Niantic under Ninigret, and the whole body thenceforth took the name of Narraganset.

This one had me searching for a few minutes, as I made incorrect assumptions about location when I pulled up. Once I double checked the coordinates it was a speedy find. Thanks for contributing to my Geo fun this morning, Mondo!

This is a good one. Almost missed it as I thought it was in the usual location as many of the other caches in this series. The coordinates for this series have been spot on with my GPS so I decided to check them again for this one. I found I was a couple thousandths of a foot NW from where I thought it would be. I was also fooled by what looked like remnants of a micro-cache that met its untimely demise by the hands of a lawnmower thankfully it had not. Ultimately, the cache revealed itself in a great location. Thank You.
