Above Steamboat Springs, a cache is hidden near the signature hot springs that share this cache's name. During most of the year you may need a 4wd or snow chains to get to the parking area just a short distance from the hot springs parking lot. From there you will have a short, steep hike to the cache site. You will be looking for camoed pickle jar that is lightly covered with a rock or two. This one will be easier to find in the summer and is likely to be very difficult, if not impossible, to find once the snow falls.

Dropped a trackable! Try to take it somewhere cool! I always enjoy a good strawberry park soak. (Especially after dark) not crazy about the people that were smoking weed this time round. Just because it’s legal in colorado (not at an establishment like this) means everyone wants to be subjected to it. Your psa for the cache haha! TFTC!

SPOILER

Cache location seems to be a bit off. The hint is a bit misleading. Look higher!

After a nice soak in the springs ari54321 wanted to go for this one. I followed as far as I could, but due to my current back injury didn't want to risk the deep snow. Gorgeous area, and the snow was dumping. loads of fun. Looking forward to trying again in the summer.

This is probably my most fun and most well-earned DNF. My family and I went to Strawberry Hot Springs and had a nice time. We came to the hot springs in 2012 as well (among many visits over years prior), but decided not to go for the cache because of snow cover. This year I proceeded into the snow despite the warnings. I ended up just romping around for a half hour, climbing around big rocks and through lots of snow, digging and checking in every possible spot. Of course, in the process I got snow in every possible place in my clothing and shoes, but it was worth it. I also took a few moments to take in the scenery, as the view from up there is incredible. Hopefully I'll make it back sometime in the summer to avenge this DNF.

Beautiful Scenery! Worth the trip even for a DNF

3:59 PM Yesterday we left Pueblo headed to Steamboat Springs along CO-14 to pick up a few DeLorme grids and two counties. Tomorrow and Thursday I plan to knock out 19 DeLorme grids and the final 6 counties I need to complete the Colorado 64 challenge. (I've been caching in Colorado most years since I started geocaching in 2007, but only in the last three years did I start developing a plan to target different counties on each trip.) My bookmark is public, but also includes multiply target caches in the yet-to-be-completed counties.

Anyway... Today was a "rest day" in Tour de France parlance. I gave my wife a day off to recreate in the middle of six driving days. We both enjoyed the day. We hiked up to the upper falls at Fish Creek. Then we came here for the springs. Very relaxing. Afterwards, I made the hike/climb up here and was very relieved to spot the cache. I retrieved the geocoin and will move it along.

I signed the log. Thanks, mondou2, for the cache. I later checked and I see that this cache lights up DeLorme grid 16 for me. Yay!

We were hoping to go in from the Strawberry Hot Springs parking lot after a nice 90 minutes at the springs but, the staff wouldn't let us. The next parking lot was full and signs along the road state to not park on road. So, we'll have to try this another time. Maybe even the nearby hiking trail. :-(

We made our way out to this one so we could enjoy the nice summer day at the springs. We left the kids at a camp and arrived early afternoon. The springs were great. We found the cache before going in. There was enough of a geotrail to know we were heading in the right way but the hint through us off for a while until we put the phone down and used some geosense. The glass container was in surprisingly good shape. Thanks for placing this one and for the geofun!
