Dogs  Scenic view  Significant hike

This one is dedicated to the 4 cachers on the 2016 GeoWoodstock committee that brought that fantastic mega event to Colorado this summer - Joe Friday, Memphis Mafia, kaiwarrior, and OneKindWord.  Thank you guys for a great event and all your hard work!

A 4WD will get you close but you're still going to have to hike the remainder of the way to the top of Taylor Mountain. It's obviously not a '14er' but it will still make you huff and puff a bit.  The container for this hide has an interesting history.  It was originally used for zoltig's hide GCG0FX back in 2003.  At some point it was adopted by another cacher and then had the audacity to be washed away in the flood of 2013, only to eventually be returned to the caching community via TeamLaxson where it was passed on to us and now resides on the top of Taylor Mountain (should be safe from floods here!).  Quite an exciting life for an ammo can.  Don't be fooled by the logbook container in the rock pile used for signatures of those who are successful summitting Taylor - that is NOT it.  If you see that (and of course you should sign that log too) you are very close.  Congrats on making it to the top and once again, to the GW14er committee for a very successful event!

I'm pretty sure that this was the one I found last fall after some early snow. I got the cords from DocTK but he didn't find it that day. And I wasn't a premium member so I couldn't log it!
Nice one. TFTC. We sort of bushwhacked our way there. It was actually myself & Mrs DocTK who found it...

Got to this one on a lovely sunny December day. Warm enough to not need snowshoes, but did run into some of the white stuff on the way. Cachebox is in good shape , even after all theses years and adventures! with Mrs.DocTK and Mia the cachehound!

I use geocaching to give me reason to hike where I wouldn’t otherwise think to go. This one didn’t disappoint. My dog and I had a great time, and he found yet another leg bone near the top! I especially liked the old cache container in a new place and the respectful tribute to some fellow cachers. Thanks for the adventure!

Add my thanks to the people who put GeoWoodstock together - I had a great time during all the festivities. And thanks for recycling this container!

It may not be a 14er, but it still took some effort! The road approaching the 4WD parking has a few downed trees across it, so currently we couldn't have gotten that far even if we'd tried to take Path Pacer's Subaru up there. The hike in was nice until it started going more steeply uphill, and we had a good time even with the huffing and puffing. The gray clouds started to roll in while we were on the summit, though, and by the time we got back to the car the temp had dropped significantly and we were getting grauppeled on. Time to call it a day...but three caches and a nice hike. What more could we want?! TFTC!

We set out to find three caches this morning; this was the last one. After the Hands on Geocache, we hiked along the track towards Taylor Mt. Our topo maps showed the track veering off towards the south, so we left it and headed directly towards the parking waypoint (more on that later). From there we followed the steep trail upwards, which kind of disappears as you near the summit, although there are some cairns to help you find your way.

We found a strange sort of shelter at the top, the summit cairn, and the cache. EstesLynne made the find this time. After signing both logs and having a quick snack, we headed back down as the clouds were threatening. When we reached the parking waypoint again, we decided to follow the road to see if it met up with the one we originally started up the mountain on, only to find it was all the same road. If you have the same topo map we did, ignore it and just stay on the road. It'll take you to the beginning of the trail.

As we closed in on the car, the clouds really started raining grauppel down on us and it was decidedly chilly. Definitely not the lovely day we'd started with! Thanks for placing this cache. It was fun finding our way to the top. Gets a favorite.

Hiking with EstesLynne & Path Pacer & tagging some caches. Made our way from Caleb's Cache and Hands-On cache, then hiked along road that became trails, that turned into a hike straight up the hill, following cairns along the way. We huffed & puffed our way up, then along the ridge to the top (signed the summit log, too) make the find of this most deserved tribute cache. I have many fond memories of GW14er, and my thanks go out to the 4 who worked so diligently to make it happen. We signed both logs, had a snack & water, then headed down as the storm clouds got dark. We got some grauppel & rain on us before getting back to the car. Great hike - TFTC!
