The University of North Texas was founded in 1890 by Joshua C. Chilton. Conveniently located just north of the Dallas/Fort Worth area, the campus sits on 500 acres. It held many names over the years (North Texas College, North Texas State University, and others) but became The University of North Texas in 1988. Currently, the Univeristy offers 105 bachelor's degrees, 88 master's degrees and 37 doctoral degree programs. The current enrollment is 38,154 students. They are the screamin' eagles, but are also affectionately referred to as the Mean Green. Although "Mean" Joe Greene did play for UNT in the 1970's, the name came from a 'retaliation' game in which the chant "Go Mean Green, you look so good to me" started in the stands and has sinced echoed across campus. I graduated with my Master's Degree in Recration Therapy from the University of North Texas in 2006.
The hide is a silver and green bison tube (UNT colors, of course). The area provides amazing views of the peak as well as the surrounding landscape. There are also several sandstone features along the hike - be sure to stop and explore.
There's a FTF prize of a red bison tube wrapped in bark at the base of the tree. NOTE: The red bison tube is NOT the cache. It is the FTF prize.
Enjoy the area!
