12,000 feet in altitude, in a rock field, short but very
difficult
hike from 4 wheel drive trail on the way to Pomeroy Lake.
Prior to arriving in St. Elmo, keep an eye to the left (or south)
for County Road 295. This road only goes one direction and takes
you to The Mary Murphy Mine, Hancock Pass and The Alpine Tunnel. At
The Mary Murphy Mine turn left (county road 297), again it only
goes one direction
Follow this road about 3.5 miles past a few other old mines and
park off the road at: N38 39.294 W106 20.570.
Cache is within 1500 feet of here through a difficult rock
(boulder) field with plenty of holes to lose anything not attached
to your body (G.P.S., phones, keys, etc).

I own a Garmin Legend H and on two different trips in two days
it gave me two different readings. When you find it, if the mark is
off, let me know and I will change it. I tried to average out the
two different readings, so it should be very close. Look for what
might have been an air vent hole for the mines around here.
