Today is the fifth time over the years that my puppy Teewinot and I have hiked to the summit of Quigley Mountain, a Ranked Peak having a highpoint elevation of 8,580 feet. Several years ago we made the hike with Denali Queen; another time, Silver Trekker accompanied us; and we’ve also enjoyed the hike three times when we’ve had no other climbing companion.

Today we had more leisure than on previous trips, and the weather was glorious. So we hung around near the top of this mountain and absorbed the scenery better than we’ve done in the past. I hadn’t appreciated that Quigley offers a great distant view of Greyrock Mountain and the nice peaks that surround that mountain. Greyrock and its adjacent partners is where my puzzle cache “The Pig of Poudre Canyon” has its starting point. So I was up here today on Quigley, looking out at the beginning of Piggly, one might say....

Once you’ve made the effort to get to the summit of Quigley, take some time to look around. Quigley provides a nice viewing platform! Then find the cache, which is located fairly close to the top, but in a natural gap between two diamond-shaped pointed rocks. You are looking for a spray-painted Rx vial. Be certain to bring a pen or pencil, so you can sign this cache’s real treasure–it’s log.

Enjoy your hike. Enjoy the vistas. Find the cache. Feel rewarded in all sorts of ways!

Thanks Denali41 for a great experience!! Nice climb and beautiful summit. Cache is easy to find with your description, obviously, as this was somewhat secondary, albeit the driver, to the adventure. I see the primary benefit as the view, the joy of climbing and being out in nature. Nice clear day so could see for miles. Went by myself as my companions were not up to a non-trail hike. I'm sure there are easier routes than the one I took but even so it was only a 2-1/2 hour outing and lots of jumping over downed burned trees, etc. Cache was in good shape and dry. Thanks again.

My girlfriend and I made the climb this morning. We were camping in the area for the Memorial Day weekend. Cache is in good shape and the views were great! TFTC!

Rode over from Jack's Gulch to try to find Sharpshooter's Lair (failed) and then figured out an old two track would take us right by this cache. It was a little tough to follow with all the burned downfall and new grass in some areas. I enjoyed the challenge, but not so sure about my huggle who likes to know exactly where he is going all the time. Once we got to GZ the cache was an easy locate using the description.

Grabbed this one before leaving our campsite at Jacks Gulch. Woke up that morning and it was raining, which turned to snow, and then it cleared off for about three hours or so. Long enough for me to follow the topo map in the GPS to find the "easiest" way up. Very nice views from the top. The weather was much colder than the previous day when we went after Tahosas Road Cache. See the attached pics. The high mountains have a dusting of snow now. If you want to get this cache this year, you had better hurry! Once the snow sets in, it will be buried until the spring melt next year. After hiking back to camp, we had lunch and got packed up to leave. The weather socked in and the snow came down in serious fashion. Glad we bugged out when we did! You can see Greyrock in one of the pics attached. No, really, it's there. Waaaaay off in the distance. :-) Thank you Denali41 for a neat location!

Thanks for this nice cache. We had a short but pretty hike up Quigley. The area is quite green, with almost a carpet of wildflowers and grasses. We saw a number of short aspens already starting to re-forest the area. Found the cache easily and enjoyed the view until the clouds got close enough to encourage us to head back down. Got to the car before the rain, and headed off to scout locations for a new cache idea we have.
