CACHE IS AGAIN AVAILABLE, AFTER TWO YEARS OF RE-CONSTRUCTION OF THE RESERVOIR!
IT IS A NICE HIKE AND A GREAT VIEW!

This is a hike of a mile and a half round trip on an easy trail at an altitude of 9200 feet.
If you are passing through Silverthorne on I70,take a break and check out Old Dillon Reservoir. It served the old town of Dillon, which now lies beneath the new reservoir. You gain only 140 feet as you hike through a pine forest and you have great views. South over Dillon Reservoir you see Baldy and Mt. Guyot (with the sloping top). Southwest is the 10-mile range. North is the Gore range, and to the east you see the twin 14-ers Grays and Torreys. Look for beaver-cut trees. You may even see a beaver.

Cache is an ammo box. Note: It is reported to be very full. Since I can't get up there for a few weeks, will the next cacher or two please help by doing a little cleanout.

Take the Dam Road and park at N 39 36.352, W 106 04.516.

NOTE: Log book #2 put in cache on 8/3/2005, replacing the temporary one kindly left by Kweezen.

I loved finally finding this old cache. I've been caching since Nov 2003 & my parents had a house in Dillon until about then. But it always seemed like I was up here with non caching family or it was winter so I never made it to this trail.

We took an evening hike after our wedding anniversary dinner. Beautiful trail & lovely sunset over both lakes. We wouldn’t have known about this area, except for the cache. We give it a favorite point because both paper log books are still in great shape & delightful to read! Thanks for a wonderful memory!

DNF, I think I’m at the right spot looks like there are a bunch of sticks that were covering it but cache is not here, if this is the right spot.
