Lodgepole Pine branch & cones

The New Growth Cache is located near Twin Lakes Reservoir by the beginnings of a new growth forest. The elevation is 9345 ft. The cache is kid friendly & the hike to the site is approx. 1/4 mile from the parking area along fairly flat elevation changes, however, accessing the cache now requires some scrambling over downed trees. The drive to the parking area is somewhat steep & requires a vehicle with good ground clearance.
You could also hike in 8/10 of a mile from the main road to the parking area & on to the cache. This area can also be accessed on foot via a longer, single track trail, from the Pingree Park campus (sorry, don't have the mileage).

There are incredible views of the Mummy Range from this cache and this is a beautiful place to spend a day, so pack a lunch and a fishing rod. Wildlife are plentiful at dawn and dusk. Fishing can be hit or miss, particularly in late summer when the water is very low, but it's a great place to try catching something. Be sure to read the site information card in the cache box (but leave it with the cache). The original contents were as follows:

- Checkers travel game
- Mech-Bots Bug Bot
- Deck of cards
- Geocaching "Euro-style" bumper sticker
- 3 Geocaching pencils
- Cool firefighter action figure
- 1 waterproof log book and 2 Geocaching pencils (log book
& these 2 pencils stay with the cache)

 Hints

Take Larimer County Rd. 44H to Twin Lakes Reservoir turnoff, go left and follow the road to the parking area. Look for young lodge pole pines.

No joy for us today. I was really hoping to pick up this loneliest of caches today. Oh well, the search was fun!

Found it 6/27/2015. The coordinates provided here were off by about 40ft, which normally is not a big deal, but they had you trekking into the water/reservoir.

I found it at the coordinates recorded with this entry. Previous log entries in the cache indicated the water levels had risen and it was moved on shore.

We had a great day out caching and wheeling with crazy bigdog, kaiwarrior, Joe Friday, and OneKindWord. We enjoyed the wonderful Colorado Mountain weather with snow overnight and 64 degrees for an afternoon high. TFTC SL

Spent a great day in the hills today Jeepin' with starnsun, kaiwarrior, and Joe Friday. The weather was awesome and the colors are still good, although we spent a large portion of the day in burn scar areas. We enjoyed the chance to stretch our legs as we walked from parking, but there was a very cold wind. We found the cache quickly once we arrived at GZ, everything is in great shape. Fun to find the original logbook! TFTC

Glad to find a cache in this great area I had never been before. Looks like there are a few more in the area so we will have to return sometime. Hiked up from the main road, had no problem locating the cache, nice start to the day. TFTH SL
