To provide greater availability of this cache during winter months (since the waypoints will be buried), the CO will be happy to provide information to locate the final during winter months.

This geocache will take you to the beautiful Bud Werner Memorial Library. The original 1967 library, designed by Denver architect Tor Westgaard, was built in memory of local Olympic skier, Wallace “Buddy” Werner after he was killed tragically in a Swiss avalanche at the young age of 29. Donations poured in from all over the world to construct a library for the small town that loved their favorite son.

The geocache is not at posted coordinates! Visit the waypoints listed and collect the necessary information to solve the puzzle and find the cache!

Waypoint #1 - N40° 29.344 W106° 50.407

Modeled upon an updated Arts & Crafts style, the library’s overall look and feel is inspired by the natural landscape that pours through walls of glass. The design features warm natural cherry wood tones, handcrafted elements, a rich color palette, decorative art glass and simplicity of form.

At these coordinates (highway 40 / NE side of the building), locate the etched cornerstone and attached letters on the wall, and collect the following information:

A=four digit year on the cornerstone

Above the year, collect the following letters:

D=4th from the left
E=3rd from the right
F=7th from the right

Waypoint #2 - N40° 29.322 W106° 50.405

This equatorial sundial includes a chart to correct time to Mountain Standard Time (not Daylight Savings, but standard time) per month to allow for the particularities of Earth's orbit during various months. The sundial was created by William Perry and dedicated Barbara Cosel.

B=The four digit year Barbara was born in

Waypoint #3 - N40° 29.323 W106° 50.412

This wonderful bronze, life-sized statue pays tribute to the mother of three Olympians of Steamboat Springs. Executed in a 'sit-by-me' style. 'Hazie" is seated on a bench reading a book.

C= The last three digits in the year Hazie was born

You have now collected all the information you need to locate the final container:

{C+6} . {A-B-1}
{D}{E}{F}

This geocache would not have been possible without the amazing staff at the Bud Werner Memorial Library. Special thanks to John Major for supporting the Colorado geocaching community!

Found this one on an afternoon walk around the town. I'm glad I actually put in the little bit of work to do this one as it was fun with a final hide unlike any I'd seen before.

I forgot how some of the sections of the library worked, so I was looking in the main section of the library for a while and it just wasn't there. Well, no wonder. The library search system set me right.

A good fun cache, thanks!

Growing up here I was all too familiar with the old library. Funny how I've never been to the new one until today. It was a beautiful day, & gathering the needed info was quick and fairly easy. The sundial plaque has weathered considerable but Mrs. rockymtn8iv-n-I were able to retrieve the needed info.
After logging the cache and dropping 3 TBs & a Geocoin we got library card and did a little recon.
This is our second library cache and a new favorite.

Found with Java Chip. We love the library caches. Did the calculations the night before when the library was closed. Made it today 10 minutes before closing and looked in the wrong section. Luckily a nice man pointed us in the right direction, and we were able to sign it just before closing. TFTC!

Very cool cache. I made an error in the area I was searching. As soon as I corrected myself, I made the quick find. Beautiful view from the window today.

Visiting from Oregon. Our first visit to Steamboat Springs. What a beautiful library! We completed this cache while waiting for Sun Pies to open for lunch.
