Don't feel blue about this cache. Do it on a day with clear blue skies and you will be rewarded with spectacular views. The blue stripes on the Colorado flag represent water. You'll need to cross a small stream on your way to this cache.

Blue Mountain is part of a complex of summits in the foothills south of Pikes Peak. It's a significant hike of about 5 miles round trip with 1200 feet of elevation gain and no trail. The map shows my approximate route from parking. The cache is on BLM land, open to the public.

Welcome to Colorful Colorado signs greet travelers on major highways as they enter the state. Don't let the drab brown sign and monochromatic backdrop at most of the highway border crossings fool you. From the clear blue sky and the pure white of snow to the red sandstone rocks, golden aspen, dark night skies, and the deep green of the forest, this cache series invites you to experience some of our state's less-traveled places, to stop and and absorb your surroundings, and to allow yourself to be changed by them.

There are seven caches in the series - six different colors that may be found in any order and a final cache that combines color-coded clues obtained from inside the front cover of the logbook in each of the other six. Although all of Colorado is colorful, this entire series stays within the Pikes Peak region. Some are short hikes, some a little longer, but there are no dangerous exposures or difficult climbs. Any mountain hike can be dangerous of course, so bring a map and be prepared for changing weather, wildlife encounters, and high elevations.

Congratulations to titocache - first to find!

Well, that was a fun little traverse... The weather was great today and I had a great hike. Thanks for the caches, and some more puzzle clues!

Had an exhausting hike up blue mountain today with WingsAndTales. It was a gorgeous day. Very little soft snow left in spots. Tftc! I remembered to get the clues on this one.

Stopped by with billkat today. What a beautiful day for a hike. I picked up both the TBs since they have been here for almost 2 years.

Yeee-ay-HAWW!! Made it just in time for the rain & thunder to set in. Scared up a whole ton of Ruffed Grouse. Came dressed for trail running- and never saw a trail. Then there was a good long dose of sleety-hail like stuff. Do I get any extra credit for all that?
I wrote down the necessary series info & traded TB's 2 for three to get 'em moving.

Is this the only Colorado mountain with a view from the top of nothing but the surrounding forest of giant Aspens??

6th of 6, now to solve the puzzle and off to the final BigSmile All 3 Kidz (ages 11, and 7 year old twins) and I took today's blue skies as the signal that this was our opportunity for this one. 6 hour hike total, but we took LOTS of breaks, found two other caches on the way, and planted a new one of ours, so now there are 3 on the way to Blue Mountain. Oh, our aching EVERYTHING Dead BUT -- we got the Smile Woo-HOO !!! Stamped the log, traded some blue swag, would have grabbed or discovered the Flipper trackable but hey -- that one is OURS ToungeOut So we dropped off two more trackables that fit in with the theme -- Beaver Blue and a Colorado State Flag Tag. Then back down, down, down to the Jeep. TFTC, which I would give a favorite point to, but the Kidz would probably disown me if I labeled this one as a "favorite". Challenging -- yes. Memorable -- absolutely. Rewarding -- without a doubt. Would we do it again? Uhhhhh ... let me get back to you on that one ... I'll work on the puzzle that I know how to solve a little later, and we will head off to the final sometime soon, but definitely not this weekend. GREAT series !!!
