Gollum's Cave

This is a puzzle cache with two stages. A clue has been left at the posted coordinates. To gain access to Gollum's hiding place (final coordinates) you will need to locate this clue and solve a quick Lord of the Rings themed puzzle.

Gollum has been spotted at the final coordinates, skulking and looking for his precious. We must find him and put an end to his treachery but he has installed an ancient and magical elven lock around himself. To break the spell you are going to have to solve the following riddle and travel to his nearby cave where he has left an additional clue. Please replace the magic lock once you have cracked the spell and leave it as found. Ensuring the spell is reset for future Gollum hunters.

Please do not take Gollum away from his hiding place. He will try to trick you but he is entirely evil and not to be trusted. You can gain access to his stash and logging-scroll by lifting him out and turning him around. PLEASE replace him exactly as found. CO will not be held responsible for missing digits, stolen rings of power etc.

OK. On to the 'riddle' .....

I have many friends:

a) this friend will help me. Yes, 'she will help'. She is a giant _ _ _ _ _ _ . (a) = the 4th letter in this missing word.
b) this friend sang a special song all about me. Her name is _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ . (b) = the number of times that the letter 'i' is in her full name.
c) this nasty friend wouldn't give me the precious on my birthday. Yes indeed. His name is _ _ _ _ _ _ . (c) = the last latter in his name.

Now go to Gollum's cave (posted coordinates). This can be found at [N 39 32.387 W 105 10.856]. This is NOT the cache. But he has left a clue. Please replace clue and container exactly as found. Gollum is thinking of a letter. And he has left something behind.

d) (d) = the letter Gollum is thinking of
e) Gollum left behind his _ _ _ _ . (e) = the 3rd letter of the thing he left behind.

Now solve the puzzle, go to the final coordinates (N 39 32.973 W 105 08.857) and break the magic spell:

Turn the values you have for (a), (c), (d) and (e) into numbers. e.g. the letter 'a' would be 1. The letter 'b' would be 2 and so on up to 26.

Magic code = ((c*b) + (d*a) + (c*d) + (c+d-e))

The cave is quite a scramble. I did it with my 7 year old Son, but it's not suitable for very young kids, wheelchairs, dogs and strollers. The final is fine for young kids and dogs. As always Keep an eye out for slithery critters at the cave and exercise stealth at the final!

The final is not on private property and should be easy to spot. Please do not venture over into the private land
