I WANTED TO PLACE CACHES THAT HIGHLIGHT AND TEACH OTHERS ABOUT BIRDS OF PREY. I PLACED THESE CACHES WHERE I HAVE SEEN THESE BIRDS. IF YOU COME TO T HIS CACHE WHEN THEY AROUND PLEASE BE SENSITIVE AND RESPECT THEIR PRIVACY BY KEEPING YOUR DISTANCE. COME BACK ANOTHER DAY. THEY DO AVOID THE PRESENCE OF HUMANS AND TRY TO STAY OUT OF THE WAY.

THE GOLDEN EAGLE IS ONE OF TWO EAGLES WE SEE IN COLORADO AND THE CONTINENTAL U.S. THEY ARE NATIVE WORLD WIDE, AND ARE ESPECIALLY SUITED FOR LIFE IN COLORADO. THEY ARE CLIFF DWELLERS, AND LOVE TO HUNT SMALL TO MEDIUM MAMMALS. THEIR FAVORITE CATCH OF THE DAY IS JACK RABBIT.

THEIR GOLDEN NAPE IS THE TRADEMARK OF THE GOLDEN EAGLE, AS WELL AS THEIR NAMESAKE.

I ONCE SAW A GOLDEN EAGLE ABOUT 20 YARDS TO THE NORTH WEST FROM WHERE THIS CACHE IS HIDDEN, FEEDING ON A DEER CARCASS IN THE OPEN FIELD. I PULLED OFF ON E. HILLS DRIVE TO SEE IF I COULD TAKE A PICTURE FROM THE CAR. THE EAGLE WAS ALREADY NERVOUS ABOUT BEING NEAR THE BUSY ROAD. I DIDN’T GET A GOOD PICTURE. BUT IT SHOWS THAT THEY ARE ALWAYS AROUND. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL MORE ABOUT 10 MILES WEST OF HERE OFF OF LINCOLN DR.

I HAVE HAD THE PRIVILEDGE OF HANDLING A GOLDEN EAGLE. HE IS BRIGHT, INQUISITIVE, VERY POWERFUL, AND ALSO VERY SOCIAL. I HAVE SCRATCHED ONE OFF MY BUCKET LIST BY BEING ABLE TO SAY THE ABAOVE. WHAT A WONDERFUL BIRD. HE IS THE KING OF BIRDS!

Nicely done. Signed log before the snow storm.

Thanks RckMtnMic for giving me a reason to get outside. It’s always worth it when you are enjoying nature. There is nothing better than acting like a kid again, digging through weeds and climbing trees, all to sign my name on a piece of paper.

Found with Cachly for IOS.

I do enjoy seeing birds of prey. I spotted a golden eagle a couple of weeks ago when I was geocaching east of Longmont. They are magnificent birds! I had an easy time finding the cache, it is still here and in good shape.
Cheers, keep calm and cache on.
